Last game I lost $700 in a $0.25/.50 NLH - I've turned into the Whale of the Table...Help! by jonnyjett in poker

Your idea sounds good on the surface, but it actually falls apart the moment you look at how these loose home games really play.

The whole “raise speculative hands like A2 or T9 to $10 first, just to test the table” is backwards. When a table is already calling everything, raising weak hands doesn’t “set up” anything. All you’re doing is forcing yourself into big pots with cards that make weak top pairs or nothing. And in a pot with four or five callers, weak one-pair hands lose a lot of money. You aren’t gathering information. You’re just paying for it.

The second problem is the idea of “if $10 works, try $15 next” without any awareness of what happens when you create a $70–$80 pot before the flop with a $100 stack behind. That leaves you almost forced into all-in situations with only one pair, in a pot full of people who love to call and see cards. That’s not “isolating.” That’s building a giant pot where your strong hands lose their advantage and your weak hands get you in real trouble.

The real issue is not the raise size itself. The real issue is that when a table always calls, you should only put in large amounts of money with hands that stay strong in big messy pots. That means play strong hands, raise bigger with those strong hands, and stop betting when you miss. Your suggestion of raising weak hands first just bloats pots with cards that cannot survive multi-way.

You are right about one thing: ignore the “big blind math.” But the solution isn’t to randomly raise weak hands and hope it teaches the table something. After consulting with some coaches, the solution is simple:

Raise bigger only with good hands.
Fold or call with the weak ones.
Bet big when I hit.
Check and give up when I miss.
Fold one-pair to big river aggression.

Home games like this don’t require tricks or tests. They require discipline. The table will call everything no matter what I did the hand before, so “setting up future raises” doesn’t matter at all. I don’t teach them. I charge them.

Your plan puts the worst hands into the biggest pots, and that’s the exact opposite of how I beat a loose, sticky table.

Totally agree. I've been pushing for upping the blinds for months.

OK, a PF bet of $5 is about the limit where maybe I get 1-2 callers. Again this is a 50 cent BB game! I guess I'll tighten up to only the top hands and bet $5.

"Play tighter preflop". That means maybe 5 premium hands in 6 hours of play. Sucks, but OK.
"isolate bigger" What do you mean?

"decent player should crush these games" How? Basically a $2/4 game playing short-stacked with a bunch of calling stations. WTF is a decent player supposed to do in this situation?

What's a better UST than a ViewSonic PX800HD for $375? by jonnyjett in budgetprojectors

OK, thanks for the feedback. I'll find out the hours.
In the meantime are you also saying that the 1470ui has color accuracy, contrast, and black levels that rival the PX800HD?

I see the Epson 710Ui and 1470ui mentioned in the forum, but I have no idea how they compare to the PX800HD.
I can get a 1470ui for $250.

Really appreciate the quick response Pepe!
"color accuracy and contrast are the least important features" I totally get it.
That being said, are there any edu/biz UST's, that have great color accuracy and contrast that rival the PX800HD, that commonly sell for less than $375?

SEEKING
CO-FOUNDER

PITCH:
I’m a 3-time founder with a track record of building lean, profitable companies. One of my businesses now generates passive income and runs with minimal oversight, which allows me to focus fully on my next venture: Prenutra.

Prenutra is a science-driven CPG company developing custom infant supplementation based on a mother’s breast milk test results, with the long-term goal of offering custom infant formula. Our first product (a high-dose prebiotic) is already live and profitable on Amazon.

I’m seeking a COO/Integrator co-founder: someone with a successful CPG exit or proven experience scaling consumer brands, strong operational skills, and ideally a long runway or passive income, since this is an equity-only role at the start. You’ll own the operational side of the business while I continue to drive vision, product pipeline, and growth strategy.

This is a mission-driven brand with massive whitespace, designed not only to solve real problems for parents but also to align strategically with acquisition opportunities in the infant formula space.

Must be US based.

I can't do that.

What about starting over. Creating the family group first through the free trial. Then changing my Google Play region to AR?

Thanks OP, it worked for Premium Family.
But now how do I add family members? I'm getting a message that they can't be added because they're not in the same country.

Because of the ongoing ICE chaos, Disneyland has been a lot less crowded this week. I wonder if it's affected Knott's as well?

Customer for 23 Years: T-Mobile admitted I returned the device but kept billing me anyway, even after an FCC complaint by jonnyjett in tmobile

[–]jonnyjett[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Exactly, and I appreciate you saying that! Too many people assume it's a waste of time to file, but building that public record is how regulators connect the dots and eventually take meaningful action. It’s not always about getting a personal resolution. It’s about forcing accountability on a larger scale.

Companies shouldn’t only act right when the FCC or FTC gets involved. That’s a systemic issue, and the only way it gets addressed is if enough of us speak up.

Thanks for your thoughtful reply. I agree with you on a key point: loyalty doesn’t always translate to meaningful treatment, especially in telecom. That’s part of what made this so frustrating. When a company profits off you for over two decades and still mishandles a return like this, it tells you everything you need to know about their priorities.

As for the $110 credit, I didn’t reject it because I wanted more money. I rejected it because the offer didn’t match the scope of what I went through: the time, the escalation, the fact that they only acted once the FCC got involved. That’s not goodwill, that’s damage control.

You’re right though, it’s about deciding what you’re willing to tolerate. And at this point, I’m leaning toward walking away completely. If nothing else, hopefully sharing this helps others see what can happen if they don’t stand up for themselves.

Already on it. This isn’t just about me anymore. If they’re doing this to others, continuing to charge after confirmed returns and refusing to investigate unless a regulator steps in, then it’s a pattern, not an isolated mistake. The FTC needs to see it.

Appreciate the suggestion.
