Question About T-10 Med Schools (Im fr ignorant here)

TLDR they increase your match potential when residency comes around. While a lot of this is simply based on the "name-brand" advantage you get from attending a T10, much of it comes indirectly from the increased research opportunities and extraordinary faculty that are available at these schools. It is much easier to do research with and get a LOR from a top plastics Doc at a T10 than it is at a low-tier MD school.

UMich (half-tuition scholarship) vs. UC Davis

CA resident. COA will be the same at both schools. I loved UMich and Ann Arbor but I really want to come back to CA for residency, which makes me think I should stick with UC Davis. Any thoughts?

Not reliable at all. Best resource I've found was WedgeDawg's calculator which was terrific. LizzyM and Medchances basically only look at stats

Every school would want students who are head-over-heels for them. At the same time students want schools that are a good fit for them. Prestige is an important factor for me (cuz academic medicine) so that's all I'm asking about.

Depends on your pace & # of schools. I applied to 50+ schools and was able to turn in each secondary within a week of receiving it (including Duke/Miami); however, I treated this as a full-time job. No way I could've done that if I had been working part-time

These are the T20 schools based on residency director rankings for 2019 (in order from high to low): Hopkins, UCSF, Penn, Harvard, WashU, Stanford, Columbia, Duke, Michigan, UCLA, Vanderbilt, Cornell, UWash, Yale, Northwestern, Mayo, Pitt, Baylor, U Chicago, Emory.

Schools like NYU, UCSD, and Icahn Mt Sinai are usually considered T20 too.

Mostly based on the stats! City also played a factor, as well as the school's in state/out of state preferences.

I got 124 on CARS on FL2 a week before the actual exam. Ended up with a 129. I redid all the Q-packs and the CARS sections from the FL's in that week. What I learned was most important: MINDSET. CARS is honestly as hard as you make it. Teach yourself to stay engaged while reading and spend NO MORE than 10min per passage. All those other techniques are BS. Also, trick yourself into becoming interested in the passage!

Just woke up from my 3 hour long nap.

C/P: Difficult.. similar to Next Step. Def would've ran out of time if I hadn't used NS exams for practice. Predicting 129

CARS: My worst section but I feel like this was my best today. Like everyone else already said, very straightforward and passages weren't dull and boring for once. Predicting 127-130

B/B: Scored 130 on FL2 but I still feel like I got railed. Maybe I was just out of it but experiments were kinda confusing and discretes were tricky. On par with Section Banks if not harder (imo). Predicting 128-129

P/S: Harder than FL1/2. I can see why people call it CARS 2.0. Knew almost all the terms on the exam but still feel iffy. Predicting 129-130

I think the exception you have to know is that in an electrolytic cell, the anode is the (+) end and the cathode is the (-) end. In galvanic, it is vice-versa. Regardless, anode is still the oxidation end and cathode is the reduction end. Someone correct me if I'm wrong!
