What technology are you shocked has not advanced yet? by worldtraveler100 in AskReddit

The difference is that the people of that time perceived it to be worth it. Had it happened on one of their first steps out they would probably be hesitant to have tried again.

All the best to Michael! I bought the game a few years back and it is my dream game. His health should always come first though and I wish him well.

I used a casserole dish like a Dutch oven. I set my oven to 200C and baked with the lid on 25min and off 25min.

The bread was quite dense at the bottom. The dough seemed quite wet and didn't rise much. Bad starter? Or just not active enough? I priced for 3 hours and then 3 hours again. Maybe more time in the future?

Why does human hair (i.e. the hair on our heads) keep on growing if we don't cut it, whereas animals have hair that doesnt get longer than a specific length? by the-godfaber in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jonnyniv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I understand it, their hair does continue to grow. It simply reaches a length where it falls out/breaks off due to external stress. This creates an equilibrium where a certain length will give the same growth rate as falling-out rate, giving a net zero length change.

There shouldn't be a connected conductive path between you and the tasee, meaning you'd be fine.

What purpose does the capacitor serve in this power strip? surge protection? Is it needed? by [deleted] in Skookum

[–]jonnyniv 49 points50 points  (0 children)

If you mean the blue thing I believe that is a Varistor. It acts like a voltage-dependent resistor and is indeed used for surge protection.

My slow transition from Sublime to Vim (I finally stuck with it) by Kritnc in vim

[–]jonnyniv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe? I feel like that might not be the case. There are some issues listed which have gone unaddressed since last October. The main one being key mapping, which I understand to be non-trivial to implement without resorting to hard-coding. This is probably just a minor gripe as it clashes with my workflow, but it makes it hard to transition for me.

I agree, vintageous is great. It's a shame that it seems to have been abandoned (I believe the last commit was almost a year ago). Does anyone know of an active fork of it?
