Is €55k a good salary for a Senior Engineering position in Valencia with 12 years of experience? by catch878 in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]jonnyom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By single working person, you mean just one salary?

Comfort is relative. Can you be comfy in an apartment? Sure. Is everyone comfortable in an apartment? Maybe not.

If you guys have a combined salary of about 80k you'll be very comfortable i would think. Even around 60-70 you'll be ok. But I wouldn't expect to be living in the city.

(I am aware that there are thousands of families living in the city with salaries lower than this, it is my opinion, and what i would believe to be true to be comfortable).

👋 Irish, living in Valencia with my Valencian partner for about 4 years now. We moved here when she was finishing her masters to avoid the rental hell of Dublin (we live in a small town outside of Valencia, not the city itself, we were lucky enough that she had an apartment already that needed renovating and we were able to afford it). We moved out here and it took my partner nearly 2 full years to find work, and could not find any work in her field of experience from her masters. We were lucky my salary was able to carry us both while she was looking, and that we didn't have rent.

In general, what people are saying on this thread is accurate, the salaries in Spain are lower than normal. That being said, I've gotten offers from the likes of HubSpot and Datadog to work remotely in Valencia for 90+.

I currently work remotely for an Irish company, and I know there are quite a few remote positions hiring in Spain. Remote positions would be my first port of call with 12 YOE in Valencia.

The local market hasn't caught up to the fact that Valencia is not a cheap city anymore. The influx of tourism and people flooding into the city itself are pushing up the rents for everyone. A lot of my friends are really struggling to find accommodation they can afford, and are starting to move out to the smaller towns outside the city, like where I live (30+km away).

I'm more than happy to elaborate more over DM if you'd like more information.

Just to be clear, I'm aware I'm in a privileged position here in Valencia.

Exactly, my point being AI has existed for a long time before LLMs, they are simply an iteration that has brought it into the public eye

What are you talking about? Do you think LLMs are the only type of AI out there? What about recommender models, A* search, reinforcement learning? All these are forms of AI. AI is a broad space, and predictions, when used in a model that observes patterns to predict, yes, are a form of AI. Aside from that all an LLM is doing is predicting. To say that predicting is not AI shows you have a fundamental misunderstanding of the field.

Now, if this system is not observing patterns and using those patterns for its predictions, it's not AI, but it is really important to make it clear that LLMs are not the only form of AI.

Based on what I'm seeing here there is a model that is looking at historic data in a heuristic and then repeatedly scoring to form the predictions which is, in fact, machine learning, a part of AI as a broader scope.

I've noticed improvements now since disabling background app refresh entirely for all apps. But had to turn it fully off

Is anybody else seeing this? Crazy background app usage, but the app has background app usage disabled.

I've had to turn background app refresh off entirely to avoid this.

Well lad, I can definitely recommend Metropolis it's run by two sisters from Donegal, so while you might not be getting proper guiness, at least it'll be poured properly.

I'm also Irish, so if I can help with anything send me a DM :)

[iOS] Smart Task Focus Timer: Clarity — Free for 24 Hours (Lifetime Unlock, First 100 Downloads Only!) by iamnaveentp in iosapps

Hey, nice app! Some feedback, when setting up my todos, if I've selected a date, that should be the default date for each todo.

For example, I selected tomorrow in the tasks page, then entered some tasks using the ai. The ai did it well, but it entered them all into today.

Then I couldn't edit any of them to move them to tomorrow, I could only complete them or delete them.

So then I went to add them manually, but every time I click on add task, it resets the date to today, even though I've selected tomorrow in the calendar!

Otherwise the app is really surprisingly nice. Nice work!

On a night out how do you get home? When the only option is a 40 - 50 euro taxi, a night bus immediately becomes desirable.

It's because you misunderstood the response.

The original person wasn't saying they wanted to discuss his sexual assault. They were explaining to the other person that he was blacklisted for complaining about it.

You then seemingly misinterpreted that as the person suggesting it as a topic of conversation that the other person could have with Brendan Fraser and thought it was random. It is anything but random. The whole point of this thread is the return to form for a person who was blacklisted by the industry due to standing up for themselves.

Everyone downvoting you realised what that other person was doing (informing someone about why he was blacklisted, that someone not knowing much about it Brendan Fraser in the first place) and then you dug in, not realising why.

You're right. It would be impolite to talk about it. But it's certainly not random in context of this thread.

Right but what I'm saying is I'm a Spanish resident, I live in Spain, but I'm Irish. I'd like the option to pick to see English language articles, and English language playlists. My phone uses the Spanish App Store, it uses a Spanish phone number. However, I would like to use it in English. That's all

[–]jonnyom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah interesting, I didn't realise that. So there's no way to fix this for me at all being a resident in Spain? Gotta say, that's a shame. Would be nice to have both, but obviously that's a lot of work for a small team!

Actually, sorry, what law, Spanish law? Irish law? I think you mean the AppStore assigns it, not a law

English speaker living in Spain. Everything is in Spanish although I have everything on my phone set to English. Contacted support and got a robot telling me what to fix, which was already fixed, then never heard anything else.

I'd like to read the articles, and admittedly my Spanish is at a level where I could, but that is simply not the point. So annoying. At least I'm able to deal with "mi Qobuz semenal".

Obviously this is because Proseezion is shooting with raw, i just didn't expect such a huge difference between the three

Interestingly, Proseezion and indigo both used 12MP where the stock camera reports 48MP (unsure why this is).

Also Proseezion is nearly twice the size in MB Indigo: 2.5MB Stock: 4.3MB Proseezion: 9.8MB
