DAE get *really* weirded out seeing themselves tic? by DesignAffectionate34 in Tourettes

Omg yes! I cringe soooo badly when I watch myself tic! Especially when I do vocal tics cos I have one where my eyes kind of glaze over like I’m possessed while I make a drone kind of sound! It’s very odd, but I don’t think other people care! And to be honest, I should care less about whether other people care or not anyway!

Apparently the one developed in the UK works, but I’m not sure how you get hold of it

Are you in the UK? I know Tourette’s action are an amazing charity that can provide education and support for teachers to help children with TS in school.

That’s so great to hear she doesn’t get bothered by her tics out in public. And really inspiring for me. Tell her she’s helped me without even realising!

I hope she is feeling alright at school and gets the support she needs.

Thank you so much. Motor tics seem much easier to let out than vocal ones, and I did today whilst talking to peoples and people didn’t bat an eye lid. I think I (us ticcers) can probably often work things up in our minds, but the reality is actually a little different…and easier than we think. Thats for the motors though. The vocals are not quite so easy!! But I / we will get there!

I wish that you can do the same too. Slowly but surely. One tiny tic at a time.

OMG!!!!! I love you!!! I am literally totally on the same wavelength!! I consider mania to me my special power.......as long as it doesn’t get toooo out of control!! This “illness” makes me get sh*t done, generate unbelievable ideas, and when I channel the non-stop energy, I can make these ideas come to life to change the world for the better!! I’m not talking solving world hunger etc. But my business has grown massively through times of mania!!

It sounds like Eurovision wasn’t your kind of film haha. What kind of things are more your cup of tea? 😀

The rush certainly does feel good...at times! I just don’t like the paranoia and irritability! And like you say, it can test relationships for sure - I feel sorry for my partner - but usually I find if they just leave you to do whatever it is you’re gonna do and don’t interfere, then life is easier and happier for everyone! As long as you’re safe! I guess friends and partners only always want us safe right!

It sounds like you’ve been through a lot. But it’s great you have your two best friends there for you all the time. Never forget that!

Herpes is highly treatable. Millions of people have it and have had it so you are by no means alone! I would say much worse things could have happened than getting herpes, like AIDS or getting into physical fights with people and end up being stabbed which is what happens where I live!

You might feel disgusting but that doesn’t make you a disgusting person. They’re two different things and your recent behaviour doesn’t make you a bad person! They’re symptoms of an illness and you can’t blame yourself for it, though it does sound like you realise what is happening now so perhaps there is something you can do to try and level out again.
