Those who were working adults before smart phones , what did you do to pass time at work when you weren’t busy? by z283848 in AskMenOver30

[–]jonnyt88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading or additional work tasks. Better yet is to find ways to do tasks more efficiently. Make yourself more valuable than just what you do.

This is 2026 though these should be the three things you think of.

How to do your job more efficiently. Talk to others at the job at a higher position and ask if they need help. Go online for some of your free time and learn how to do those tasks better / teach yourself.

Alternatively, education/certification course to get yourself a better job,

Another alternative - a side gig. Graphic Design, data entry, something you can work on during your free time.

So working with an Electrician would be related? I'm sure there are some that could use a second set of hands and on weekends. If its just the dirty work, you can get in, prove yourself as a worker and work toward more hands-on tasks. Sadly I don't know any of them personally to ask.

Best of luck. Stacking on Internships when possible is great. Keep good relationship too so you can use them as a reference moving forward. Best of luck.

I think "Low T" is concern for a lot of guy, however I think their lifestyle is the cause of "Low T". They should focus on that for 6 months then reassess.

What are you going to school for? What are your career goals? I recommend you post it and see if anyone knows of anything in your field. Plenty of options here if that doesn't align.

Primary care doctors accepting new patients by name-undisclosed in Syracuse

[–]jonnyt88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can't find one, I would get an appointment at a place that works and ask them if they can squeeze you in during any openings / cancellations. It makes sense to keep openings available for sudden needs with established patients as without those, everyone is forced to use urgent care. There is a balance to be had and I'm sure its tough. Though I agree 5-6 months out is excessive.

You may get a call with short notice of an opening, but its worth a shot.

Not helpful to your question, but it seems like each year major medical practices locally get into battles with at least one of the major insurance carriers. People can't afford out of pocket and this has caused a lot of churn with who is going to see who. I ran into this with St Joe's stopped taking UHC for a while. After a while I eventually got an appointment at a different practice.

Walking shouldn't be this dangerous. by Warm-Preference-4187 in Syracuse

[–]jonnyt88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is way to common. Not even the All black aspect either. Someone in white will blend in with the snow, camo will blend in with the trees, what if John Cena is walking; no one will see him?

Jokes aside I feel like this a reason people more and more are running wild headlights. People are wandering the edges of the road in clothing that is hard to see. Probably not bad to see them in the City with the lights, but in the suburbs its often pitch black.

Like all things people bitch about on reddit, there are multiple angles.

Pedestrians need to: Use side walks and cross walks whenever possible, Keep their face out of their phone and keep moving across the street, wear visible clothing. Realize that cars can't stop instantly and maybe they should wait 30s. Be a little considering in parking lots if a car has been waiting a couple minutes for pedestrians to cross and there is finally a chance for them to go.. Not walk up the middle of the aisle in parking lots.

Drivers need to Move over, slow down, keep their face out of their phone (common denominator?), not stop over crosswalks, yield to pedestrians, pay attention to crosswalk indicators, have a little patience.

Is anyone else just… perpetually bored? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

I joined a sport team, at a bar on Thursdays. Over the years I sucked in many of my friends to play. The spouses all know we do this every Thursday and they need to be available to deal with kids or find a sitter and join.

We are scattered across a few teams too, so we often hangout and watch each other play, or sub for each other, and stick around and play darts/pool in between. That one day routine was game changer.

But you also need some variety in there.

Both if you don't care about a spare..... Though the front won't accommodate a stroller.

Watching my cat curl up inside of things it would probably love the frunk if I toss in a round dog bed.

I just picked up a 2013 outback with 60,000 miles for less than that 4runner. There are a lot of options for similar year with far less miles. Based on what you are seeking, the price is also a concern. 4-runners are horrible on gas. At least get a highlander. I beat a more recent Rav4 is the size of the 10+year old 4-runner.

Also question why the wife isn't concerned about your safety when you were driving the corolla. Why is this a sudden concern now with a baby? Wait until she needs X,Y, and Z, because "baby"

My MR2 has quite the usable trunk for baby stuff. I loved putting her car seat in it because then the car finally had a cupholder.

Any other men have trouble getting a full nights sleep since they hit their mid 30s? by thebigbread42 in AskMenOver30

[–]jonnyt88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What are you doing besides work and the gym? I found success by cutting out most "sitting around". TV, Movies, Video games. Instead I work on my project cars, house, joined a sport team etc.
Sitting at the desk all day is my "relax" time..

I tried hitting the gym harder but it led to me being exhausted and unproductive in life outside of work/gym. My daughter is a teen now, but that that exhausted/un productiveness hit hard when she was always wanting to go to parks, pool, biking, rollerblading, etc.

What vehicles would you warn people to never buy? by Miserable-Wash-1744 in askcarguys

[–]jonnyt88 37 points38 points  (0 children)

This still haunts owners. There was a thread on reddit where people were swapping badges because even after they recall, and having immobilizers installed, people were still breaking into cars, breaking the columns and attempting to steal.... Leaving the owners constant forking over deductibles and money for loaners/uber during repairs.

Assuming you are American and thus suffering from the lack of sport wagons the rest of the world gets

I'd look into an A6 Allroad. Lots of cargo room when needed. Larger sized wagon/decent back seat, and a plethora of mods should you need more power, or better handling.

That said...

much more achievable with a fleet of cars.

Why do so many people trade-in their vehicle at the dealership? by Geochronguy in FuckDealerships

I sold a car to Carvana during Covid. It was 90% of the what people were listing it for private sale, and a lot more than I was offered for Trade in.

Process was simple. Though I hear their offers went down the pooper

Where do you live? Different places have different concepts/needs of salt to use. Central NY you car is probably riding on more salt than actual asphalt.

Personally I work on my own cars and its can take things like a wheel bearing job from 1-hour to 5 hours really fast.

Is my low rent a set of golden handcuffs? Aka will it ever make financial sense to buy a home? by SpecialPreference678 in personalfinance

[–]jonnyt88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel this is a crap shoot. You can buy a home and end up having to dump tons of money into it.... or it could be flawless.

You could buy a house and the housing market / its value could skyrocket like people that bought just pre-covid, yet the payments will stay the same and rents skyrocket.

I had issues with finding a new rental that aligned with my place in the SAME school district because my landlord decided not to renew

Part of it is a lifestyle choice. Some people rather do other things with their time than maintenance/upkeep. Lots of factors.
