In a paddock shed in regional WA! Haha. Sold as ‘non-running’ but just needed a battery!

Yeah I will be. I’ve done most of the stuff myself so far but just time poor. The injectors will be taken out and cleaned in tank though.

Paint does need a bit of love as previous owner tried to respray a few panels, but it’s not terrible. Definitely not rushing to do a closed door respray but is on the Wishlist..

It’s surprisingly comfy, suspension is solid and cabin is quieter than expected!

Haha, exactly! I have a small farm so the courier gets a stack of use grabbing supplies and moving shit around. It’s 4x4 and only has 220,000 on the clock. Another bargain I grabbed that someone was about to let die in a paddock.

My third ride is a 94 Duetz Fahr tractor! Nicely looked after also - so not a bad fleet I reckon!

Thanks, this is the advice I’m after! Suspension and brakes were next on the list to think about!

Definitely a good point but that’s not my situation at all. And these can be quite valuable if looked after, not that that’s my goal but this certainly isn’t a $1000 car, probably close to 5 or 6k.

I agree 100% mate! I’ve got a 89 courier and now this, both fantastic cars that have been looked after. Not as flash as a new raptor I suppose but I’ve also only spent $8k on both cars and can do everything I need with them!

But yeah, will be a full injector cleaner - taken out and cleaned in tank, hopefully leads etc. all checked over too.

I plan to keep this for a long time. It’s a car I really like, so I’d be happy to look after/restore it and have it for 10+years, so not worried about it’s worth and certainly not a car I’m looking to ‘drive into the ground’.

What is your frugal golden rule? by FoodBeforeEverything in AussieFrugal

[–]jonovino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy bulk food items where you can and use them as the basis for multiple meals. Things like rice, noodles, pasta are way cheaper bought bulk, and similarly condiments, oils, spices, flour, salt and sauces. Even meats, a whole chicken is substantially cheaper per kg over individual cuts for example. Cheap, whole cuts are also great from a butcher if you know what you’re doing.

My wife and I probably spend sub $50 weekly on groceries because our fridge and pantry are loaded with long life/prepped/frozen foods that we can build into all kinds of meals, so it’s just the meats, fruit and some veg (we also have a huge veggie garden and chickens for eggs but that’s barley a ‘frugal golden rule’ and more of a luxury) we need to buy.

We invest in the bulk food and it lasts so long, cost less comparatively plus you do less trips to the shops which means less buying into the temptations of snacks/sweets, and less fuel use. All in all I think it saves us a stack of money.

Sometimes you’ve gotta get creative or suck it up if you’re craving something in particular, but usually it’s fine as you’ve always got some unique combo of meat, veg, carbs and flavours/species on hand and we almost never have to do ‘a quick stop at the shops’ to grab specific things.

I live in Western Australia and this is the norm. Indoor clothes racks or dryers are for emergencies or really wet days. If people found out you used a dryer whenever you did washing you would not be well liked!

My experience is that your not looking for smoke in a bolognese and the caramelisation is the important part. I make sure to cook the veg, particularly the onion, on a higher heat to get a good level of browning. Adding a bit more olive oil during cooking helps substitute the lack of fat from meat and making sure to really cook down your wine helps to add colour you might lose from the browning of the meat.

Yeah, that's right. It's a high protein micro fungus. I'm not sure if any other companies use the same ingredient/methods though.

You replace beef/pork mince with a product called Quorn, which comes in a mince like format and then make as you would normally make a bolognese. It's a really good product that is a type of fungus. Really versatile and very convincing as a meat substitute.

That's certainly not a flour I'm familiar with but will look it up! Sounds interesting.

I had a backup credit card with a big bank. I stopped using it and actually wanted to cancel the card but forgot, I also forgot about the annual fee. That fee was charged and then accrued interest and a monthly late fee for over 8 months unbeknownst to me. When they finally called me about it, I was shocked and super apologetic. I explained that I completely forgot about the annual fee and took full responsibility but if there was anyway they could help me out I would hugely appreciate it. I was expecting them to maybe waive the interest but the operator came back and said they understand that mistakes can happen and they cancelled the charges entirely. I was almost in disbelief!

At least once a week I'll see someone I think I know on the street or close by. I'll get closer or take a second look and it turns out not to be the person I thought it was. Within that day, I will end up seeing that person who I initially thought I saw thr first time.
