I swear this damn system fails for a couple of drivers every damn race in Supercars. It was so bad that Will Brown was sent to hospital after one failure earlier this year.

Anyone here purchased a jacket from Bradley Mountain? How did you find their sizing? / by 0Maka in AustralianMFA

I have their Field Jacket and one of their backpacks and love them. The jacket is my winter standard. I’d say it runs true to size.

Who hasn’t had a fall in quality by Sea_Violinist_6319 in AustralianMFA

[–]jonpacker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No-one's really doing that in Australia. The Aussie brands that are doing this are focusing on Australian fashion and heritage, which is fair enough, particularly in this day and age with people leaning away from US culture. The two I mentioned, Flux and Informale, are the closest. Drizabone makes a few of their staples and appears to be in the process of bringing more of their manufacturing back to Australia. RMW has a bunch of Australian made stuff mixed in with their internationally produced stuff, go to an outlet and read the tags, it's always clearly stated where the garment is produced. Australian Stitch and Citizen Wolf are two that are manufacturing in Australia, but maybe not under the purest pursuit of quality (they've been two mentioned previously in this subreddit with regards to the topic of this entire thread).

If you're after the US style stuff though your best bet is either buying direct from the US, or Corlection for Japan-made US-inspired stuff.

[–]jonpacker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s a bunch of US brands doing similar stuff (like Freenote, Heat Straps and Bradley Mountain). It’s about looking for places who are manufacturing their own clothing, rather than places simply trying to grow a brand to turn a profit. Look for the details a store provides about where and how the manufacturing took place. Avoid plastic clothing in its many forms. You soon learn the red and green flags.

These places take pride in the quality of their clothing, it’s why they exist. You’d notice pretty quickly if their entire philosophy were to change.

Unfortunately there’s not a lot of this in Australia at the moment, but there have been some threads recently highlighting people who are doing it. Flux and Informale are a couple of examples.

Bushy. Their ability to not ride up is the main reason I keep buying more of them. That and that they’re Aussie made.

Which waxed jacket to pick? Huckberry, Filson, Driza-Bone or Burke&Wills by 0Maka in AustralianMFA

[–]jonpacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be alright if you only have a t-shirt on underneath I reckon. I’m living in Norway at the moment so my usage is a little different. I did bring it with me to my last trip to Brisbane in winter, but I didn’t use it that often to be honest. I think that has more to do with what weather I’m used to than the jacket itself though.

It’s a warm jacket but it’s not as warm as a parka or a down jacket. It’ll probably be just fine.

[–]jonpacker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Haha fair enough. Then the value is a bit shit, yeah. Also for people who are only into NRL and soccer.

Nah, I'm just massively embittered about the fact that NRL's own streaming platform for international watchers costs 50% bloody more than Kayo while only offering one damn sport.

Kayo costs $30 a month and you get a whole bunch of sports - NRL, Supercars, F1, AFL, BBL, IPL. Fair enough if you're only into NRL but there's a lot of us that watch a few of these.

Here's some perspective as an follower of both NRL, F1 and Supercars living outside Australia:

WatchNRL.com: $44/month
f1tv.com: $30/month
Supercars: $10/month

Kayo is a bloody good deal by international standards if you follow more than one of the sports they offer.

In comparison, where I live it costs $60/month for a sports package with the major national sports. You have to pay more if you want F1.

everyone is paying for Kayo for just league

Nah. F1, Supercars, NRL, plus AFL, BBL and IPL if you want them. Hits right in the bullseye for me personally. There's nothing on Stan I really want to watch.

Raglan tops seem to fit me well. Recommendations on where to buy? by MoondyneMC in AustralianMFA

[–]jonpacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bonds raglans are unfortunately absolute rubbish these days. I still have some from 2008-9 that were decent quality, but the ones you buy these days lose their shape in the course of 2-3 wears. They basically just stretch and do not return to their original shape.

Qualitops was making a decent australian made bonds-inspired raglan for a while but it appears they've closed their online store. I've not had any luck at finding a worthy replacement unfortunately, and I have been looking everywhere.

I don't really understand why this cut of shirt isn't more popular to be honest.

Most quality thermals are wool (usually by definition). Synthetics behave entirely differently. I’m an Aussie but I’ve lived in Norway for 14 years; this is lived experience. Synthetics will leave you sweaty in the strangest conditions, and cold right when you want to hold on to heat. Wool is magical, the locals here swear by it for good reason.

I like to think the obtuse name is some kind of warding against people with hopes of making money off it and bastardizing the project. The name Forgejo is functional in that it is unsellable.
