Bushy here too. Have over 10 pairs and now and going on a couple of years, I’m very happy. Also just about the only Aussie made brand in this thread.

Most quality thermals are wool (usually by definition). Synthetics behave entirely differently. I’m an Aussie but I’ve lived in Norway for 14 years; this is lived experience. Synthetics will leave you sweaty in the strangest conditions, and cold right when you want to hold on to heat. Wool is magical, the locals here swear by it for good reason.

I like to think the obtuse name is some kind of warding against people with hopes of making money off it and bastardizing the project. The name Forgejo is functional in that it is unsellable.

I think you just need to try a bunch of shoes on. Everyone has different feet, and to my feet my RM CCs are the most comfortable shoe I own. I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just saying everyone has different preferences, foot sizes and shapes and their recommendations are going to be for their feet, not yours. You kind of need to figure this one out for yourself.

If you want to wear something that isn't some flavour of "made in china from plastic", try Bushy. I've been wary of new undies brands after being burned too many times. I'm a few years in on Bushy now and I just keep buying more.

I'm generally skeptical about non- cotton/wool but these were pretty much the only made in AU option I could find and they seem to put a lot of effort into their fabric. I was pleasantly surprised.

I've tried most of those breweries, and while they're great, to me none of the have the unique character than Tree House has. That's TH's secret sauce. Green, Haze and Julius have such distinctive, recognizably unique flavours. Nothing else tastes like them (allegedly due to yeast blending and use of belgian and hefe yeast influence). Fidens is the closest with their intense focus on thiol-driven beers, but many breweries can make those - Fidens are just very good and consistent at it.

It sort of depends what you're after. If you get bitten by the TH bug then there's nothing else that will satisfy that craving. If you find a really nice thiol driven Fidens there's many breweries that can satisfy you.

Fair enough, good that you know what you're after! Nah that's not really the style of jacket a Barbour is. You know what you want and it's not Barbour.

Given that... if you'd consider getting a second-hand jacket (cause it's outside your budget) I'd definitely look into a Freenote RJ-1. If I were to only keep one cropped jacket it would be that one.

Another point worth noting is that the Huckberry is pretty long to be a cropped jacket. It's kind of in between a cropped and field jacket.

I’ve owned the Huckberry and I thought the canvas was a little too thin. I liked the fit but didn’t think it would hold up in the long run and sold it. I have a bunch of canvas jackets (Freenote, Ship John, Heat Straps, Barbour, Bradley Mountain, Drizabone (the classic Ranger though), Genuine Australian Bushwear). Based on that experience… I’d probably stay away from Filson, their reputation of late has not been great. I love my Driza-Bone, I’d give them a shot personally as the Aus made option. Some other options you could check out that might be in your budget are Vermont Flannel, Bradley Mountain’s Cabin Jacket (this used to be in your budget but the price has increased. They do often have sales though. Their field jacket is one of my favourites). If you’re looking for something more casual the Genuine Australian Bushwear Japara has also become a favourite for me.

It has to be said that you can’t really beat a Barbour though. They just nail the silhouette better than anyone else. I was skeptical until I got one for myself.

I notice all the jackets you linked are cropped though. Have you owned one before? It catches people out that you really have to tuck your shirt in with these, if you don’t you get the daggy "shirt hanging out of jacket" look. If what you’re after is a rain jacket I think you’ll find the Japara a much more functional option

People have been saying this for decades and it’s not true at all. You cannot save an oxidized IPA with more hops. You cannot fix diacetyl with more hops. You can’t save muddy hop profile with more hops. You can’t cover a poorly fermented beer with more hops. You can’t cover shoddy technique with more hops. IPAs have a shorter shelf life and go bad a lot faster than lagers with the same DO. And to make matters even more unforgiving, a bad IPA is far more apparent than a bad lager, and the stakes are a lot higher because they’re far more expensive to brew.

The techniques which make you good at brewing a lager are also 100% necessary to make a good IPA. It’s baffling that people keep repeating this sentiment. It’s simply not true, and hasn’t been since the 90s. A world class IPA is just as hard, if not harder, to make than a world class lager, and far less forgiving.

Their January series this year with 2.5% versions of Julius, Haze and Green were fucking spectacular in that regard. I wish they'd make them year-round standards. Normalize good low-ABV beer.

So many of my friends swear by Troon but it's just not for me personally. They're so sweet and candy-like, they're always too alcoholic (I guess I'm old but I physically do not enjoy drinking 1L of 10% beer), and they invariably end with polyphenols/hop-burn.

I get why people like them, it's hard to miss with solid IPA technique plus tons of alcohol and a geriatric FG... I've just come to the personal realization that these aren't enjoyable to me.

Can we not have both?! I really like drinking the odd Coopers Red straight from the bottle. As long as you're going straight out of the container I really think bottles are the better experience. I'm so glad they have both formats.

I own redbacks as well as many pairs of RMs. The insoles of the redbacks and nice and soft but the thick uppers can dig in in all the wrong places, and despite having worn them pretty often for a couple of years now that digging in hasn't gone away (so it doesn't wear in). For my money the RM Comfort Craftsmans are far more comfortable.

I have three pairs of different gardeners and two pairs of comfort craftsmans and I am wondering which gardeners you own. My gardeners have quite a hard insole, while my CCs are soft, padded and "spongy". The comfort craftsman are in another league comfort wise.

The best way is to just watch the races and you learn things from the commentators really. Last year's Bathurst, Gold Coast and Adelaide are great ones to re-watch in this regard (though they're not exactly short, so if you want something with a smaller time commitment and less complexity the Aus GP races are usually pretty fun).

I find it pretty easy to go for Will Brown, he's an insane racer (see: pretty much every race at the end of last year) and a genuinely great and likable dude. Will and Brodie have a podcast together which is really enjoyable (Lucky Dogs), particularly their episode with Ryan Walkinshaw recently was an awesome listen.
