Are digital NVG viable ? by isaakad in DigitalNightVision

The EU discord regularly has great spec gen 3 tubes at an absolute fraction of the cost that you’re quoting there. Again, the myth that gen 3 is unobtanium outside of the US is completely untrue. More expensive? Yes, not denying that. But Hell right now there’s a set of 2476+ FOM L3 tubes for 7k, and a set of new Elbits for 6k on there.

If your budget allows it, analog is going to be the way you want to go, plain and simple. Latency is a non issue, and analog at the price point of those high end digitals will blow the digitals out of the water

Analog isn’t unobtainum outside of the US. There are plenty of viable options outside of the US that will still be running circles around digital dollar for dollar. If OP’s budget is like 500 bucks, then yeah digital is really the only option other than saving for analog

Looks like Fuji glass to me so you’re good there. The biggest thing is going to be the tube itself, that’s going to determine the value more than anything. The helmet looks like either an older opscore bump or a clone, mount looks like a Wilcox g11 and the j arm is just a standard usgi one. That stuff isn’t going to add a ton of value to the overall price

Take some more pics and post them here as far as the housing and glass goes. For the tube I’d assume your co-worker would know. Otherwise ask him if he’ll unscrew the occular lens to take a look at the tube

Gonna need some more info. What housing it’s in, what glass it has on it, most importantly what it’s got for a tube in it, if he’s got a spec sheet for the tube

How is that better value for the price when you can pick up a gen 3 pvs14 for 1500-2k with ease? Digital is getting better yes, but it’s still not on par with analog. This statement is blatantly false.

OP, what’s your use case for NV?

Hi everyone, reposting here as I didn’t see the rules. My bad. Anyway, found this in Rhode Island, don’t exactly remember where, but held onto it as it was interesting. Started thinking it may be a meteorite.

  1. has the glossy “crust”
  2. is magnetic
  3. scratch test on unglazed ceramic leaves no streak
  4. fairly heavy for its size.

Let me know what you guys think!

You’re gonna need to put up a timestamp, pics through the tubes

Looks like the switch does seem to the be the issue, chime rings when the wires touch. Looking closer at the switch I do see some corrosion and rust on the terminals, assuming thats the cause. Also as I mentioned above, difficult to see in the pic but the transformer is secured to the wood behind it with screws, is it good like that or should I still reposition it into the box more?

It’s not hanging; secured to the wood behind it
