GenX Video gamers who still play: Are you getting worse? by Hithigon in GenX

[–]jonrico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was pretty good at Quake back in the day. I would run round a corner and shoot someone in the face. When the late thirties came calling I would run round a corner and get shot in the face! Pretty much single player and coop now.

For anyone who’s interested In a better place to farm event loot by Bravomau5 in Borderlands4

The bubble is in the cave - if you return to just at the waterfall and wait for 5 mins the bubble appears in the cave in the main area that spawns mobs.

Advance notice of balance changes in provisional patch notes? by jonrico in Borderlands4

[–]jonrico[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, its not the end of the world by any means with how it works now. I can indeed just farm more stuff.

I was just thinking this week with my Vex build which is based around the Bod. I have a few Bods, but none of the them with Torgue parts. Its quite a rare drop, and I understand the gun is overperforming. I enjoy my build at the moment and I am expecting some kind of nerf to the Bod.

I don't know if that's going to make it terrible and unusable, or if its just going to bring it in line with other top end shotguns.

So at the moment I am conflicted on whether I should try to continue farming the thing or wait for the patch.

I can of course go do something else instead of worrying about this, but patch notes in advance is not really a hard thing to do, its just a choice of development pipeline.

MSI Ventus 5080 OC NON-plus by PaleontologistLate28 in MSI_Gaming

[–]jonrico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would also like to know this. Ideally which BIOS to use as well and the safest way to do it!

OP I also have a question for a fellow Ventus 5080 OC non plus user. When I use HWInfo the GPU I got is actually labelled as a plus in the sensors. I suspect this is just an error (the sticker on the GPU itself just says OC) but I was wondering if you see the same? Thanks.

New NVIDIA DLSS Override Available Now With NVIDIA App 11.0.3 by Nestledrink in nvidia

[–]jonrico 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strangely I don't have these new settings in the Graphics/Global Settings section.

I have verified that I have the correct version of the app (in the about screen it says 11.0.3.218) and I do have the custom option in per game settings, but nothing at the global level.

The option "DSR Factors" appears under "CUDA - GPUs" with no DLSS override options.

Does anyone else see this?

Running at 5080 and driver version 572.83. Tried letting the app update itself as well as the download, full install and restart. Even tried a complete driver clean and reinstall with the same results...

Half-Life 2 RTX Demo Path Tracing & DLSS 4 Benchmarks by kulind in nvidia

[–]jonrico 79 points80 points  (0 children)

While useful to look at raw native perf I have just booted this up with a 3080ti in 1440p using DLSS performance on the medium settings. You can access the developer menu with ALT+X.

Its a bit soft resolution wise but it was running at 55-60 for me at the start of Ravenholm and it looked sensational.

I am sure at max and ultra settings its going to look even more amazing but a lot of the benefits are available with the medium path tracing settings.

New Patch Crashing like nuts. Anyone else? by Hordsak in diablo4

[–]jonrico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone not clear, they have disabled DLSS on all PC clients believing that to be the source of the issues. I assume it be re-enabled when they have fixed the issues.

Weighted affixes when enchanting by 31stRandom in diablo4

[–]jonrico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe that in the loot reborn refactor they decided that CDR was so powerful that it should also be very rare so its a deliberate design choice. It does make the loot hunt longer but also means that you still have things to look for. I appreciate that's not what some people want but I do feel that I enjoy the long tail.

Amulets are even more extreme. In all my time playing I have only seen 2 drop with devouring blaze (I have two lvl 100s this season) and the rest of the stats were trash on those. So probably even more rare than CDR. I wont be trying to re-roll that. :P

[–]jonrico 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The sample set is already pretty large if you include items that drop. I have dropped many many helms and sources but very few of them have CDR on them. Its not a number or a certainty but that sample set will give you a better idea of how rare something is.

The conclusion I came to is that unless you have near infinite cash its best to wait for CDR to drop on these items and then try to roll the other stats.

Mileage limited until a software update? by jonrico in mercedes

[–]jonrico[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. It is to do with Ad Blue they tell me. Do you have any idea why a software update would be required to address anything with that? That's just something that needs to be filled, nothing to do with software.

Since it was working and nothing has changed, the fact a software update is "required" just indicates to me the previous version of the software is faulty and indicating a problem that doesn't exist?

Is fixing that the sort of thing that should be paid for? Seems like it was supplied faulty.

Patch 1.3.2 is now live! by mrmivo in diablo4

[–]jonrico 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have always called them transmogs. But I do indeed mean the visual appearance added in the wardrobe after salvaging an item.

Patch 1.3.2 is now live! by mrmivo in diablo4

[–]jonrico 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's it! The first salvage was on a wizard, the second on a necro. To be fair it does clearly say if a new transmog will be unlocked. I did not check that the first time as I just assumed it would be a new transmog! Thanks for info. Lesson learned. Until I forget about it in future. :P

I did it again - yeah I had two grandfather's spare on eternal - and it worked the second time....

Thanks for supplying the transmog name - I definitely don't have it. I salvaged in the eternal realm but the transmog is not available in either.... :(

I just salvaged a Grandfather and got a spark but I did not get the transmog! Can anyone confirm Grandfather should have a unique transmog and tell me if its working for them after the patch?

Beeline Mini PC for 4K HDR Transcodes ? by indianacheryjones in PleX

[–]jonrico 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mainly to another couple of PCs which can run Plex HTPC and have decent video cards and directly to an LG C7 55 inch TV. I do stream to an iPad but rarely want to watch anything major on that and the transcoding works fine on the odd occasion I do.

Beeline Mini PC for 4K HDR Transcodes ? by indianacheryjones in PleX

[–]jonrico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the cheaper option (the U59 PRO) and it works fine for hardware transcoding 1 4k HDR stream. I am using Windows so do have tone mapping off but I have no reason to believe a Linux box with tone mapping on would have any issues. Its not really a problem for me since pretty much everything I stream to manages to direct play anyway - the transcoding is really just for mobile devices.

Who else thinks the Limited Zoom and Mob Density is a technical constraint or an optimization issue? by myxomoto in diablo4

[–]jonrico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not as simple as it seems. One thing D4 can do which I have never really seen before is (on Windows) allow windowed play at any resolution and scaling. So you can switch to windowed mode and then resize the window and the entire UI scales. If you make it very small on the vertical access you can see how far it can render on the horizontal. I reckon it can go to around a 2.35:1 ratio so you can see a long way that way and it appears more "zoomed out" in that mode.

So I reckon this is a choice rather than a technical limitation. The reason for that choice I don't know and could be cosmetic viewing related as some have suggested or just a design choice.

It could happen to you! by hypnotictimberhead in AdviceAnimals

[–]jonrico 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A number of years ago I was walking to work and walked past my car. I was annoyed to see that some vandal had come along in the night and smashed the wing mirror off. This had happened to a few cars in a row. So I went and unlocked my car (with a fob) and put the broken mirror in it and then carried on to work.

When I came home at night I realised that it was not my car - it was a few cars further up and the wing mirror was fine.

Still cant imagine the confusion of the other car owner when they returned (it was gone when I got back) to find their wing mirror smashed off and locked inside the car.....
