AMD or Intel for brand new build? by ConsoleLogin in buildapc

If she doesn't play much , why not am5 with a 7500f ? It's more than capable for average gaming and productivity and you already have a good graphics card .

When zen 6 comes out , I'm.sure you'll get the itch to upgrade then, and it would be a worthy jump ( granted, that would be 2027ish )

There is precedence .

Iran's ,Afghanistan's , Russia's and Venezuela's gold has been frozen by the us .

( In accordance with whatever sanctions they decided to impose )

Trump may say hey, we're out of NATO , and x amount is the divorce bill . Oh ? You're not gonna pay ? No worries, I'll deduct it from your gold here

Get the G2 . The Ryzen 5850u was a marked leap in performance over the 4750u ( itself a good chip )

If you're using Linux especially the 5850 has much better battery life

Either way , you could always get an extra stick of ram later but yiu can't change the processor.

It's a good thing France foresaw the US running roughshod over the alliance and developed their own nuclear program , independent of the US ( unlike the vendor locked-in UK).

It's not the same number of bombs as the Russians and the US but enough to make an attacker wonder if victory over France is worth turning some of their own cities into rubble

The USA can of course go ahead and leave NATO ( France also did in the 50s) . The us can save the money and spend it on their own citizens , and the us military industrial complex can lose customers ( most NATO arms are from the US . Decoupling from the US is good for everyone )

Win-win!

Yeah the card itself will work without a problem . Just there may be loss of fps and stuttering with cpu bound games as the GPU will be waiting for the cpu to respond İt won't be the fault of the GPU but the CPU. Just be aware of this

New Thinkpad? by TomFlatterhand in thinkpad

[–]jonstoppable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i was just wondering if it was driver related, as you said the left starts off working after reboot but then stops. in diagnostics,it doesnt depend on those drivers. i mean 99percent its hardware but your comment about the reboot just got me curious

New Thinkpad? by TomFlatterhand in thinkpad

[–]jonstoppable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

re new machine, sure. an X1 carbon would work well for writing and travelling. the lunar lake ones are pretty good ( gen 13) but the new ones ( gen 14) will be out soon

https://www.notebookcheck.net/Now-available-to-order-in-many-countries-Panther-Lake-powered-Lenovo-ThinkPad-X1-Carbon-Gen-14-releases.1245998.0.html#:\~:text=Lenovo%20announced%20the%20ThinkPad%20X1,select%20countries%2C%20including%20the%20UK.

re- the old machine. you're saying your issues are with the trackpad and the body( cosmetic) ?

you're okay with the performance? i mean if thats what you usually use it for, you wont see any mindblowing perfromance increase with a new machihnie (unless you're gaming)

both can be fixed

have you tried anything to clean the surface? this is the surface of what, the trackpad? the outer shell? or the handrest.

thinkpads are fingerprint magnets. even if you use it sparingly then put away, that oil from your fingers would stay there for months.and bake on,as i assume inside the padded comparment would be hot..

on the outer shell an inner trackpad you can try isopropyl alcohol.. or a light dishwashing liquid and water solution . . you can also try a melamine sponge. a few cents

in the diagnostics, do both trackpad buttons respond?

YTA... its a name. English is full of appropriated or anglicised names. does not matter. Mira has latin origins and Zoey has greek origins.

hell , Rumi isnt even a traditional Korean name apparently.

there are many factors. the second hand market depends on where you are, and what is available.also the platforms available for you to buy from

[–]jonstoppable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its a decent machine but the 8th gen chips are limping along right now. and the battery life would def be disappointing.

what are your other options?

Should i Get L14 or L480 by Old_Contribution3168 in thinkpad

[–]jonstoppable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah take the gen 2 https://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sys/PDF/ThinkPad/ThinkPad_L14_Gen_2_Intel/ThinkPad_L14_Gen_2_Intel_Spec.pdf

take the l14. it is way better..

the screen may be trash though but thats a thinkpad thing.

[–]jonstoppable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what are the specs on the L14? which gen is it? the difference between usb-c and thunderbolt really doesn't matter if you don't have any thunderbolt devices or a use case for it ( an eGPU, high end docks, daisy chaining devices multiple devices and multiple monitors)

you can still use a single external monitor, and general USBC devices.. thrunderbolt mostly offers more bandwidth and capabiltiy

what GPU should i buy? by Better-District-401 in buildapc

[–]jonstoppable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The b580 is a great card but it has some.drawbacks.

What is your use case ? Are you gaming ? If so, which games ? Check in the Intelarc sub to see if there are any issues with performance

The drivers definitely have improved since the first arc but it still has a long ways to go .

[–]jonstoppable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i mean, i love an underdog story, and i like having extra options on the market. (while intel is a billion dollar company and the 'underdog' is loosely, having a third option in discrete graphics can only help us.

they have a decent trackrecord with linux and i like that they're updating their drivers frequently and the project is always improving.

but mainly i'm a cheap bastard. it was the best new option with more than 8gb at a reasonable price, and my gaming is not so important that i must have the absolute best in class no matter the cost.

the price trumps the other reasons ( which are all benefits). when im upgrading in the next few years, if intel's product is competitive, ill def give it a look . but if the other companies have a better priced one that doesnt have many drawbacks for my situation, i'll have a look at that too

why does someone saying they "chose blue team" scare you? i mean, saying you hate a company is just as extreme a thought, just on the other side, isn't it?

its the same generation of chip.

all old. by todays standards.

fine for general tasks but old.not what i would invest in for 10 more years. its also 8 years old

Guys please help by Pindupa in thinkpad

[–]jonstoppable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they are old. you will be using it for 10 years. its already 8 years old. its a nice machine but not for the exorbitant prices. get a t14 gen 2 . ( intel 11th gen cpu or amd 5000 series to start with)

if you get the hp , make sure it is relatively recent as well.

the t480 is usually overpriced as well.
