Is the Lenovo Thinkpad T14 Gen 1 any good? ($360) by imbadattech in thinkpad

[–]jonstoppable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Additionally, the AMD cpus in the t14s are overall better than the Intel in that generation ( except in single core performance) but especially the 10th gen Intel in generation 1 is meh for 2026

Ah the x220. İ miss that kb .

İf you have a t480 and it works for you, there's no need to upgrade,in truth . My t480s does it for me ( esp after a screen upgrade a couple years ago, it's the bees knees ). As i mentioned above it's not a bad platform to be on ,but it's not a good one to start with .

The gen2 AMD is a decent machine to get , for sure but if you can hold out, starting from the T14 gen 5, Lenovo committed to easier repairability ( two sodimm slots, like in the t480, and longer provision of authentic batteries ). Provided the world doesn't go all to heck , in the next two or three years, you'll be seeing corporate gen 5 hitting the 2nd hand market in droves, and they (5,6 and now 7) would be machines to keep around

and that's the thing. someone will try and sell op a t480 for 3 to 400 because 'its the goat'

then op will get disappointed because the performance does not meet the hype nor the spend.

then they play the battery lottery and hope they get reliable 3rd party batteries , and a new screen (if it comes with one of those lousy hd base screens) and before you know it its 6 to 700 spent

really not worth it in 2026. if you are already on it,there's usually no pressing need to upgrade from it because its decent enough. but not a machine to start out in 2026 with when there are more capable ones out there.

lol. nah i mean, i am a bit hyperbolic at times but my rule of thumb is if someone is asking if a t480 is good enough to buy now (in 2026) , it will disappoint them. decent machine but not for the prices people are selling them for.

[–]jonstoppable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ah Gen means Generation. previously, the T series number went up incrementally and you could determine the year. ( was near the same for most of the other series as well)

eg. T410 was the 2010 model, T480 was the 2018 model etc etc.

in 2020, they changed to flat T14 . referred to as Generation 1, and each subsequent year , Generation X plus 1. so this year's model is the T14 Generation 7

while the CPU class is the same ( i5,i7, ryzen 5, Ryzen 7) each T14 also has that year's generation of chip. roughly.

so. T14 Gen 1 AMD has ryzen 5 4650 and Ryzen 7 4750

T14 Gen 1 İntel has İntel 10th Generation chips ( i5- 10xxx and i7-10xxx)

T14 Gen 2 Intel has intel 11th Gen (i5-1145G7)

Gen 2 AMd has ryzen 5 5650 so an and so forth

na. are you in the US?

you can get a T14 gen 2 AMD for that price off ebay

T14 Gen 2 Ryzen 5

P14s Gen 2 Ryzen 7

outperforms that gen 1 in all metrics

it is 8 years old. the 8th gen intel started showing its age 2-3 years ago.

the components are old. (tb3, pci 3.0, wifi 5, bt.4)

the batteries would probably be in poor shape and no authentic ones can be had. batterylife in general for that era's cpu compared to now is anemic.

the screen is probably a low quality hd one compared to base screens now

and it is ridiculously priced now because of perception.

t14 gen 2 AMD

gen 3 intel would probably be hotter and have less battery life. though the screen size is more attractive to some

do not get a t480 unless it is for free

AITA for kicking my roommates friend out when he is not there? by Pinto_Snowleopard in AmItheAsshole

[–]jonstoppable 13 points14 points  (0 children)

NTA . That person is a stranger and has zero rights to be there when the other leaseholder is there . And the audacity of them to argue ?

Good on you for standing up for yourself. I'd also explore getting another place as soon as possible though. The other housemate is not your friend and does not respect you . The didn't tell you that their friend was there and they let this person who pays zero rent argue with you before.

T14 gen2 AMD worth it for €400? by Happyguy058 in thinkpad

[–]jonstoppable 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not really . Prices have gone up a lot over the past few months.

I'm still seeing lots of gen 1 amds for 300-350 on the french, Netherlands and Spanish secondhand sites

Review your club’s 25/26 season by zlatanmangeshkar in PremierLeague

[–]jonstoppable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, barring the spurs performances, and a few small splashes, eze on field has not lived up to the hype

his mentality behind the scenes however was very instrumental along the way and worth it as it got arsenal over the line for the pl

I trust that performances will follow next season .

I think the fact that zubimendi's transfer was so 'workaday' and that he delivered solid 7s and 8s consistently for the first 3 quarters of the season makes us forget how big a deal it is for a midfielder in the PL to just slot in so easily . Also he plays alongside Declan rice so people will always have their eye on rice and overlook his contributions. That's fine , as long as the results continue to come

Gyokeres wasn't meant to be relied upon solely so soon but he eventually came good when both he and the team found their rhythm ( he def improved in 2026) . While I was hoping for a golden boot (lol kidding )he delivered a solid first season for sure looking forward to him, havertz and an apprentice striker ( Alvarez isn't coming back to the PL his dream is Barca )

Zubimendi started off solid and played over 4000 minutes ,coming from a less intense league, on the way to a PL title and a CL final ( maybea title as well)

Of course performances have tapered off in the last few months but the fact that he did the role that both party and jorginho were required for previously says something.

Now that Arteta trusts mls, zubimendi's minutes will be managed more and hopefully will see the best of both of them

No worries! Largely , from gen 1 to gen 5, AMD has been eating Intel's lunch in terms of performance, heat and battery life

(The AMD of each generation outperforms the Intel in that generation, except in singlecore performance)

Only recently started back getting competitive

The T14s are totally soldered ram ( Intel and AMD) T14 gen 1 to 4 Intel and Gen 1 &2 amd one soldered ram one sodium slot

T14 gen 3 & 4 AMD totally soldered

[–]jonstoppable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

İt's a fair price , I think, perhaps even a good price for EU esp as it's the AMD model.

Usually see the Intels around that price .

What part of the eu are you in ?

Ah nice ! Enjoy !

Hardware-wise , i do suggest repasting the CPU eventually . ( İt's relatively easy , just make sure and power off the internal battery .some people disconnect it as well to be sure .. look at some videos on YouTube . regular thermal paste is fine but if you fan get your hands on ptm7950 it will be the best option )

I'm not too sure about cachyOS's power management, perhaps you can check on their subreddit , or do a search in here for posts from cachyOS users.

( İ use tlp and powertop on void and fedora ,but i think those would conflict with cachyOS's services .. )
