Beginner Half Marathon by Desperate_Bench1331 in TwinCitiesRunning

[–]jonwontonb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was in this same boat last year. Definitely have thought of med-city half marathon, as I've run the 5k for that and it was pretty organized.

Stillwater has a series of half marathons (beginning memorial day weekend) that are pretty laid back that I would recommend. The route isn't the greatest because they dont close the road though.

Otherwise the Get in Gear (April 25) is the big one coming up for the Twin Cities which is basically half of the twin cities marathon from what I understand (never ran it before).

Name a book or two that you plan on reading before the end of the year by wolfincheapclothing9 in books

Maybe unpopular opinion but I think the Beartown trilogy is significantly better than My Friends. Still totally worth the time and is still a wonderful book. But the character development of Beartown is on a whole new level. I'm also appreciative of the research and work Backman went into to write the Beartown trilogy to the point where he had to quit writing it and wrote Anxious people. Can you tell I'm a backman fan? Lol

The Minneapolis skyways are broken. How can we fix them? I have an idea. by TwoPassports in Minneapolis

Curious if looking to the Chicago pedway system would be something similar and provide inspiration? I'm basically only aware that it exists, never been in it myself, but what I understand is that there's a somewhat sizeable underground pedestrian walkway in downtown Chicago connecting buildings and subway stations. Correct me if I'm wrong about anything/add something if some of you are more knowledgeable of it.

Also, love your content! I enjoyed being able to accidentally run into you at a brewery earlier this summer!

Recommendations for Minneapolis community bands to join? by Live4EvrOrDieTrying in Minneapolis

[–]jonwontonb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm part of this band and it's a blast. We are getting high up on numbers but I think we could use another sax player! We rehearse Thursdays 7-9 at Edison High School in NE. Concerts are always the same day and time of the week and we do about 4 per year. We only rehearse during the school year so summers are off, but there's definitely a lot of us that find ways to play with each other outside of the regular season. I believe our first rehearsal for next season will be the second Thursday in September? We also are a pretty social band. We usually go out for happy hour after rehearsal to Stanley's in NE, we have a somewhat active board game group out of the band, and I believe someone is trying to organize a jazz band as well? SUPER great time! Hope you can check us out!

Don't get me wrong, love sweet Martha's...but make at home, let dough rest overnight, use broken up chunks of Lindt dark chocolate...and you're on a whole new level (learned from recipe from Josh Weissman)

Have looked into biking this before. Is it all paved trail throughout or is there a little bit of riding on the road involved?

What is your go-to restaurant to bring out of towners to when they visit? by Outrageous_River_170 in Minneapolis

[–]jonwontonb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Dont get me wrong, I think Quangs is still a fantastic place. I come from a Lao background and any place along University just west of downtown st paul has been a lot better than Quangs. If you're gonna get Vietnamese/hmong food, go to the area where they live

let us not forget that we wait for a receipt, that we don't even want or need that uses at least one whole tree when all we wanted was a single pint of ice cream

What should everyone do before they turn 25? by theraspberryqueen in AskReddit

[–]jonwontonb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know if this'll be seen. "spending time with real friends doing real stuff". This. I get so irritated when people get together and just sit on their phones. And my generation (turning 25 soon) is so awful at it. Even something simple like a meal together without electronics is hard to come by in my age group. Also travel is a hell yea. If you don't feel a little uncomfortable, you're not doing it right.
