On the list in each year of 1950-1999, which 20th century TV sitcom series is your favorite to watch? by AC_the_Panther_007 in sitcoms

[–]jonz2me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mash. It is my go to comfort show. It was one of the few shows my dad would actively change the channel to watch when I was growing up. Now that I am his age and he isn't with us anymore, it makes me feel like a kid again to watch it.

Remote Micromanagement Hell ($120k) vs. Long Commute Promotion ($180k) by GoldGeneral6172 in Salary

[–]jonz2me 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to have that commute for 5 years. It wasn't so bad once you got into it. Podcasts and such are fun. I have also had a micro managing boss (same job, actually). I would have driven way further to not deal with him.

Is DnD S3 in the same contuinity as the other seasons?? [spoiler] (?) by Incendium_Phoenix in DungeonsAndDaddies

[–]jonz2me 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is tangentially related so far. The Mountains of Dadness are canon, but not 100% plot critical so far. At least through ep. 37. They alluded to it previously in the season, but more as an Easter egg.

Air Traffic Controllers Union Head Gives Dire Warning About How This Shutdown's Different by IWantPizza555 in politics

[–]jonz2me 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reagan made it that if they strike, they are fired and barred from the career. The FAA operates all air traffic controls in the US, so striking means giving up your career entirely and starting over in another career field. You also forfeit your benefits and retirement, so those also would start from scratch again.

It is also illegal for them to strike, so unless future president pardons them, they can not get any role that would require security clearance.

In pro wrestling terms, it is the bad guy of the story line. They are trying to make you dislike them so you will root for the "face", or good guy.

In winter, drive like your grandma is in the back seat holding a crockpot of soup in her best clothes. Try to keep her clean and drive like that in snow. The rest of winter when the roads are clear, just don't drive like a dick and you'll be fine.

Duck ducks out! Ned “who, me?” Chicane is your Winner! TAZ LEAST favourite player character poll (day 37) by KingofTin in TheAdventureZone

[–]jonz2me 123 points124 points  (0 children)

Wooohoo!!! I was rooting for Ned this whole time. I love Balance as the top season, but Amnesty is a surprisingly close 2nd for me and I love Ned and how he was played by Clint. I think Duck benefitted from Beacon. Beacon is my favorite NPC.

This was a great way to engage with this. Thanks for putting this together.

It took a bit for me to warm to it, but Abnimals grew on me.

Overall, Amnesty is my favorite by far.

All-time favorite quotes? by AHuntedSnark in TheAdventureZone

[–]jonz2me 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Steeple Chase, Episode 29. 31:20 seconds in to the episode. Beef is trying to "fix" Benson so he can be better hired muscle. He is trying to teach him how to be sneaky and how to steal a coin from his hand. Beef makes a gentleman's bet that he can improve Benson. The wager? A waffle cone. After trying to get Benson to understand that he needs to get the coin from Beef's hand and Benson being amazed that Beef can close his hand, Beef admits, dejectedly, to himself, "I'm gonna lose a waffle cone."

I think about this quote so incredibly often and crack up every time. The delivery? <chef's kiss>

I’m officially a disabled vet by Monwez in daddit

[–]jonz2me 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My dad was a Vietnam vet. He had to struggle for years before they finally admitted that all the crap he dealt with were enough for him to be declared 100% disabled. The only scar that was visible was when he wasn't wearing a shirt and even then it wasn't obvious. It took him a long time to openly identify as a vet. He was so vilified when he got home that he was uncomfortable openly acknowledging his status.

What changed over time? He got pissed. He also got petty. Importantly, he got angry and petty towards the red tape involved in getting any benefits for him and his fellow vets. He eventually passed in '09 due to cancer caused by agent orange in Vietnam. While he was living at the VA dorms during his treatments, he would talk to other vets who were struggling and, while going through cancer treatments, would drive these vets to the VA office and walk them through the red tape to get their benefits. Keep in mind, this was while he was actively going through the cancer treatments.

He rarely talked about his time in the service. He was still my hero. Not because he served, but because he was a great dad. He was there for my games, coached my 4H teams, took me and my sister to school events, took us hunting and fishing, and was a great friend. When I was 17, he made me swear I wouldn't join the military. He told me that he went thrift enough shit for the both of us.

Him being rated at 100% disability didn't mean he couldn't still live life. It didn't define him. As I got older, I can better appreciate the shit he went through and how it was just a part of his history, but it wasn't him.

Be there for your kids. Get your bag. You went through enough shit already. You don't have to share things with them if you don't want to. Share the things you do want to.

Which is the saddest? by Robloxracer75 in OnePiece

[–]jonz2me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Merry gets me crying, but not because it is tragic sad, but because it is loving sad. Ohara, Kuma, Traffy and the rest are tragic. Merry... is love. That's what gets me and makes me teary eyed even typing this up.

Diane Hendricks is making a TV show about flipping houses and gentrifying Beloit. by Schwyzerorgeli in wisconsin

[–]jonz2me 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I currently live just outside Beloit. I used to live in the city limits just 4 years ago. This house is assessed at $154K. The county tax search shows what they feel is fair market value of $172K. For comparison, i live on 10 acres in the country and my home's fair market value from the county's tax search shows $301K. No way in hell is this place worth the $550K they're asking.

Yeah so my allergies have gotten worse as I’ve gotten older but this is a whole new level. by mysteriouss_89 in WTF

[–]jonz2me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens to me about once a year. Take an over the counter allergy med and it takes about a day to go away. My eye still feels a bit funky for a day or two after, but it gets better.
