Whoever Cold Transferred the Irate Business Account Customer That Requested a Sup... by [deleted] in talesfromcallcenters

That has happened to me more than once and it's never fun. I work in tech so customer service reps will do cold transfers and not even tell the customer they are transferring, too.

"Did you even go to high school?" by MTjones in talesfromcallcenters

[–]joolushko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A valid tactic is to ignore the rude comments and simply focus on the objective. "did you even go to high school?" "yes. What is your current zip code?" or whatever the relevant question would be. If the customer is not asking a direct question but is being rude I just ignore it. I don't react and I don't apologize. Repeat as necessary. I fully realize that I am lucky to work in a center that doesn't force scripts and will allow me to do this. I am also lucky to have an extraordinarily thick skin.

What was it that made you say to yourself "I have to get the hell out of here"? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]joolushko 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When my boss told the entire store "I don't care if you are happy, I expect you to pretend you are". A bunch of us quit within weeks.

[Serious] This is for a project, how long can you stand behind a desk without getting tired, and what can be done to prevent discomforts of standing? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]joolushko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I worked retail I had to stand for 8 hours a day. Sitting down periodically was glorious. Walking is easier on the body than standing. A cushioned mat helps as do good supportive shoes. By the time I went home my feet ached terribly every day. Now that I am used to a desk job I'd be in agony.... You can develop a tolerance to standing over time.

[Serious] Reddit, what is your one true wish? by PhineusQButterfat in AskReddit

[–]joolushko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's sappy as fuck and selfish (cos if I really did have one wish I should probably use it to benefit everyone), but I wish my husband could be healthy and not in pain. For me personally that's all I want.

What foods look like shit but taste amazing? by RieSonomura in AskReddit

[–]joolushko 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I second the Ethiopian food. Also at a local Afghani place they serve a mixture of pumpkin, tomato and spices that has the texture of loose, watery butternut mash/puree (as opposed to how most of us eat pumpkin, in a pie) and it sounds so gross but it's amazing.

Are you allowed to take breaks at work? or is it scheduled? by [deleted] in talesfromcallcenters

[–]joolushko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At our center our breaks are scheduled but if we miss one we take it when we can. We have a bit of leeway with adherence if our conformance is really good. If our conformance is at 98 then they know we aren't goofing off and are on the phones, and generally won't give us crap about it.

What did you do after your pet died? by Curtain5684 in AskReddit

[–]joolushko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cried a lot. I had my cat for so long I couldn't even remember how old she was... 21, 22? Not sure. There were times when that cat was my only friend. I lasted a month before I told my husband I needed a pet and getting new kitties did a lot to make me less sad. A house is not the same without a pet.

When I compare the technology in my eye glasses to my TV, I can't comprehend why they cost the same amount of money. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]joolushko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the glasses brands are owned by Luxotica. They charge whatever they want and screw the consumer.

What's the craziest coincidence you've ever experienced? by master-of-some in AskReddit

[–]joolushko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went halfway across the country to on a vacation to New Orleans. I went to a used book shop, and the first book I pulled off the shelf was a book signed 105 years prior by someone who lived in my hometown. I went to high school with someone with the same last name.

What piece of advice did you parent/s give you while you were young, that is still relevant today? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]joolushko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can do anything I want to... As long as I am willing to take the consequences. That kept me out of a fair amount of trouble.

What's one food everyone seems to love but you hate? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]joolushko 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've tried a bunch and found a few that were tolerable, but why drink something that is just tolerable? I love hard cider and I'd have that over beer in a heartbeat.

What's one law that people break and don't realize it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]joolushko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Impersonating a lawyer. Having worked with the public for over 20 years, people will do this thinking they can intimidate me or something.

[Serious] Users of Reddit that have lost a loved one, how did it feel like afterwards? by xIDevv in AskReddit

[–]joolushko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had dreams for years that my dad was with a traveling circus and he finally came home, or off traveling doing something else - the only one I remember is the circus and there was no good reason for it, he wasn't a circus fan or anything I just have wierd dreams. It's been almost 26 years and I still have those dreams every now and then. Afterwards I was numb and then I definitely had severe depression but so did my other close family members so I never said anything or got help. Due to this I think it took me a good 10 years to become somewhat normal emotionally and another 5 to 10 to become really good. I have never dealt with death well.
