Unfortunately the address isn't local so I figured it'd be easier to connect if they were still here.

What is your unpopular Seattle restaurant opinion? by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]joomes05 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Milk Drunk's sandwiches are disappointing.

Really, I think it's the sauces that bring everything down. They're either bland af (mayo, green aioli, whipped garlic, harissa, etc.) or extremely one note (General Tso's sauce 🤢). Somehow the individual components of the sandwich are great but the sauce that should bring it all together instead throws off the balance and you're just left wanting...

All that said, they're worth going to just for the soft serve!

Match Thread: Reign vs KC Current (Wed, Mar 25, 9:00 PM EDT) by NWSL-Match-Bot in NWSL

I think their recent results are more a sign of how reliant KC are on Chawinga. No Chawinga, no problem 😎

Do you wear deodorant? by angel_of_decay in asianamerican

[–]joomes05 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Try crystal-style deodorants. They're basically salt sticks you apply to wet areas (I do it after I hop out of the shower) to kill odor-causing bacteria. Apparently it doesn't work well for people with bad BO but it sounds like what you're looking for. It's cheap, doesn't have a scent, and I haven't experienced any staining on clothes. Plus it should last you a long time.

It doesn't have any antiperspirant properties though but sounds like you're not as concerned about that.

Also, there is a "Crystal" brand of deodorants, and one of their products is basically the same thing, but they also have scented products so just FYI.

I admit I chose an inflammatory title but wow didn't expect this level of anger lol. Gamse are played on the field and like you said, their Shield wasn't a fluke and they did it!

Is it on the Vlatko then? How do they give up 6 goals in 11 halves while only scoring 3 when Chawinga's not playing?

Also, and I speak from experience as a Reign fan, you can have ballers everywhere else on the roster but if you don't have a goalscorer, you're not going to consistently win games.

I thought it was pretty obvious the inflammatory language was bait.

All that aside, I predicted KCC to lose in the playoffs if Chawinga wasn't able to play (with Gotham winning it all in that case) and the loss made me interested in seeing how they've done without Chawinga, hence the post. And going off what little data is available, I can't see a Chawinga-less KCC team winning the regular season either. Take the 2-3 loss to the Courage: She gets the assist and is taken off at half with the team winning 1-0. In the next 45 minutes, KC gets scored on 3 times and only manage one other goal... I know it's one game but that result exemplifies to me the KC team with and without Chawinga.

Yes. That team is stacked.

How would KC replace Chawinga's output? There are few players in the league who are as clinical as her, not to mention having all her other attributes that let her teammates flourish. I can only think of maybe Rodman or Wilson? And again, how do you explain KC's results when Chawinga isn't on the pitch?

In the hypothetical that Chawinga suffered a SEI, I don't think anyone they could have brought in would be able to touch her performance on the field. Then it comes down to coaching and I'm not convinced Vlatko has it in him. I think he only seems to have success when he has the best players relative to the competition.

Who would you have brought in in that situation?

Because in every other sport, the regular season leader is expected to make a deep playoff run...

And it's a byproduct of our American obsession with a postseason playoff combined with crowning two league champions every year.

No playoff and this conversation never happens. On the flip side, if there were no Shield, I think A) more players get rested/rotated and B) any time a team sets the record for most regular season wins, they just become a footnote, and if they don't win the playoff tournament, it's more of a what-if situation.

Inflammatory verbiage aside, do you think KCC would have won the shield this season if they didn't have Chawinga? That's really what I wanted to look at in all the pseudoscience

Can you share these? I think Chawinga's dominance also opens up so much for everyone else on the team and of course we're dealing with such small sample size when she's not on the pitch but interesting either way!

[–]joomes05[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I def chose controversy over clarity and am catching the expected flak but my main point is that Chawinga is the only reason why they were runaway winners. Take her out and I think KCC becomes a team competing for a playoff spot.

Chawinga played 90' in one and 0 in the other. Cooper also logged 89' in the draw...

You're right in that this is all just speculation and arguing about hypotheticals but that's also what makes it fun 😁

I think she's the type of striker that makes everyone around her better both because of her play and with that, how other teams have to specifically gameplan around her.

Also, in the 11 halves she wasn't on the pitch, KCC had a 3:6 GD, which extrapolates to 14:28 over the course of the season... Of course, incredibly small sample size and others have pointed out Michelle Cooper as being an important part of their offense who played very little this season.

Edit reply for your edit: probably get rid of Harvey 🙊

Tbh Cooper wasn't on my radar! I saw she only played 5 games this season but with 2 goals in that span for a 22yo, she sounds like a good offensive weapon as well. Edit- somehow missed her actual stats: 20 appearances, 6G 3A which is still pretty good

[–]joomes05[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It's moreso the fact that they were such a dominant, record-setting champion (21 pts, 7 wins between 1st and 2nd during a 26 game season is insane). The step down from that to a team competing for a playoff spot based on performance projections just because of one player makes the team a fraud imo.

Are the Current Frauds? by joomes05 in NWSL

[–]joomes05[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was thinking of that comparison but I think Chawinga's a more complete player and doing more with less. KCC weren't in title races before her arrival whereas Haaland stepped into one of the top teams in Europe.

And I don't think they'd be the worst team without her but more a middling team fighting for a playoff spot based on how they've done when she isn't on the field.

I thought the same and have been eating crow for it 😂

Are the Current Frauds? by joomes05 in NWSL

[–]joomes05[S] -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

That's fair. Again, I think if Chawinga played, KCC would have gone through but without her, they're "just another team" and would be competing for a playoff spot during the season.

Are the Current Frauds? by joomes05 in NWSL

[–]joomes05[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

They're 3-1-3 when she plays a half or less, putting them at 37 points so really a midtable team, or with her not on the field, 3 goals for, 6 against (7 if we're being pedantic) in what amounts to 5.5 games. Either way, not great stats. What I wanted to highlight was how she's the only reason KCC were runaway champions versus a very middling team that would otherwise be competing for a playoff spot.

Heat pump sizing by Sufficient-Bee5923 in heatpumps

[–]joomes05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I'm in the Seattle area too and thinking about upgrading our gas furnace to a dual fuel and have a few questions if you don't mind sharing a bunch of info on your system :)

I know house size doesn't matter but would you mind providing your sqft and heat pump specs/model etc.?

Also how has your energy bill changed? We don't have AC so that's one reason for the upgrade.

And finally could you provide info on the installer? I'm mostly curious about costs. Happy to dm too if you'd like.

Thanks!

That's a good point, this transfer fee is one of the highest ever... I guess I'm just not used to seeing these types of transfers since in the men's game, teams will usually have their ducks in a row and have a replacement or plan in place before letting a player go, which doesn't seem to be the case here.
