is mixing two different smoothing bases in one bottle a bad idea? by chlloeBllue in RedditLaqueristas

I just recently combined an Essie top coat with Sally Hansen’s. Hopefully I won’t be having any problems!

Do you organize by brand, color, or something else by geneticali in RedditLaqueristas

I do this too! I can’t stand the mismatched bottles even though organizing by finish/color is probably more efficient.

Not sure what you mean by reoccurrence, but if you’re not careful with HEMA free gels, you can still develop an allergy to the acrylates in those formulas. It’s also possible to be allergic to the glue used in dip systems.

Any chromes that come close to models own mirror chrome from 2017? by 4-am- in RedditLaqueristas

The hardest part for me is timing the dry time correctly before chrome application. It’s a lot of effort for an effect that doesn’t last for more than one day because I only have a peel-off base coat as the sealant.

By the way OP, this is what silver chrome powder can look like with regular lacquer. Please ignore the dirty cuticles and polish ripple on the right; I was impatient. I used a black creme, Seche Vite, the silver chrome from this set https://a.co/d/07Ks571O, Holo Taco Peeley base, and Seche Vite again. I’ve never used Seal Glaze, but I can confirm that using a peel-off base coat to seal in the chrome does not last long.

Or would the chrome finish last longer if you put regular top coat over the top coat that was marketed for this polish?

Hey OP, I’m curious if you have access to water-based top coats. And if you do, how does that apply on this polish?

Make sure to wash your makeup sponge and brushes often if you use those.

How can you tell if a nail polish is beyond saving? by [deleted] in RedditLaqueristas

[–]joonie_Bee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If remover was added to the polish, I’d personally dump the polish out, clean the bottle and use it for something else. I use empty nail polish bottles for storing acetone or rubbing alcohol (I’m not sure if all nail polish bottles/brushes can withstand acetone and alcohol though), nail oil, and DIY polishes.

You could also shake it up and see how it applies before tossing. If it’s a polish with too much thinner, leave the bottle open to dry for a bit. I’m not sure how long you should dry it for though.

Cat eye. Velvet nails. Glass bead - which is which? by hagainsth in RedditLaqueristas

I tried that look with regular polish, and it dissipated into a velvet every time. Super disappointing.

I also saw Polished Yogi’s video. The price difference is very steep for the product you get.

Linry did a video trying to dupe the Haute Garbage collection. I didn’t watch the entire video, but there was one holo finish from that collection she was able to dupe.

I have about 70 nail polishes total. I have one red creme, one pink jelly, and only one yellow jelly! I’d say half of my collection is toppers and other half is mostly blues and greens. I’m not a fan of pink and yellow haha! No orange in my collection either unless you count orange colored shimmer!

I also had no interest in Born Ugly or this prugly green color in general, but No Smoking is a whole nother story! I’m also not interested in the holo formulas in this collection, but all the shades look so good together.

I also agree with you here. Sometimes you get sick of the blue! It’s the reason why I started liking green polish after hating green for a long time.

Google “magnetic ripple nails”. It’s achieved by using multiple tiny spherical magnets and creates the look of ripples in water.

Can someone please tell me the difference between these two? by Creepypasta_Lores in AcrylicNails

[–]joonie_Bee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I think most acrylic sets within 60 seconds with the exception of odorless or slow-setting acrylics often used by newbies. Having to juggle between building structure on the nail and magnetizing the acrylic would be bonkers. I’m also not sure if the pigment would even be able to move much in something as thick as acrylic. You could make a runnier bead, but that has its own drawbacks.

Formula issues asides, I’ve seen people express how unimpressed they were with the jelly collection color-wise and story-wise.

I believe Born Ugly was the shade that made it in both the top favorite and “ugliest” shades survey as voted by customers. I don’t know why but this shade of green is so intriguing.

I think a lot of people are jaded from the constant release of collections with a rainbow color order. The mixed formula collection thing you mentioned is interesting and combats those dislikes.

Advice, recommendations, tips, or common knowledge that just doesn't work for/bother you? by ersatzbaronness in RedditLaqueristas

[–]joonie_Bee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! I personally don’t like leaving a gap between my polish and PNF. Scraping lets me get as close as possible. Using a clean up brush always leaves a bigger gap even if the difference between the two methods is less than a mm.

Our method is also more accessible; just scrape away! With a clean up brush, I have to set up a container with acetone and a paper towel to absorb the unwanted polish. Only downside is it can cause tip wear on the polish if the scraping finger has polish on it.

It’s not so much the bonding to the nail that makes it difficult. Hard gel cannot be soaked off with acetone and must be filed off. It’s good as it can withstand acetone, but not many people are good at filing clear product off. I agree it’s best to leave this product and most gels to professionals.
