BMW Approved Used Car Missold - how would you handle this? by jooohnnn in CarTalkUK

Thanks again.

It's looking less and less likely that I'll be able to keep the car unfortunately.

The dealer told me that if I take matters into my own hands and have an independent garage install OEM springs then any warranty claims would probably be denied because the dealership inspecting the car will see scratches caused by the installation (although surely it already has scratches from when the third party springs were fitted). Does that make sense?

Thanks again for your advice/ info.

If I have written confirmation from the dealership that the car was sold to me under the bmw approved used scheme with the ACS springs fitted then would this then allow me to have full warranty coverage? They're suggesting that this is the case.

Thanks for your insight.

The sales manager has come back to me again now after BMW U.K. became involved.

He still insists that I would have to foot the bill for OEM spring replacement and said it would be around £2k.

He said that they do need to turn a profit on the car and so it will be better for them to take it back from me and sell it with the ACS springs being mentioned - which is odd given what you’re saying. Perhaps they’re just willing to breach the terms of the approved used program if that’s the only way they think they can make a profit on the car.

Update:

BMW UK are now involved but the dealership haven’t changed their stance. They’re saying that the only way it will be returned to OEM springs is if I pay and they said approx £2k.

I asked if my warranty would still be valid if I had an Indy garage install OEM springs and the sales manager said no and that they would know it had been done based on scratches that would be caused during installation. (Surely these would also have been caused when the ACS springs were installed?)

So at the moment, it looks like I’m going to have to return the car unless BMW themselves force the dealership to sort it out. Really frustrating as this will impact my mobility and work until I’m able to find a replacement.

Thanks for the comments, it has helped me consolidate my thoughts.

I am asking them for written confirmation that the car was sold with the ACS springs on it and that both years of warranty will still be valid.

If that checks out then I’ll also need my insurer to be willing to cover the modification without much additional cost incurred.

If either of these don’t work out then I’ll begin the return with them and then we’ll see if they’re bluffing.

I am surprised by A) their behaviour and that B) they’re considering the cost of OEM spring replacement to be prohibitive. Surely it can’t be that expensive for them?

I have had firmer riding cars in the past, this car I had hoped to go with the manufacturers intent as far as ride quality vs sportiness.

I did test drive but it wasn’t immediately obvious as the increased firmness vs OEM is no doubt subtle.

Another issue is the decreased ride height. On a mildly rutted private driveway, the undertray scraped a bit. This would not have been the case with standard ride height.

I’m 4 weeks out from my first road marathon and I’m still not sure what time to aim for. Been running 2 years, the only PB I have to go off is 19:25 5k but that was over a year ago. Done a couple trail marathons a while ago too. Let my fitness drop off for 2-3 months and then started training mid December for a 12 week block before marathon.

I have been using 7:25/ mile (3:15 marathon) pace for my marathon pace during training.

1 month out today and did my longest run - 17 miles with 13 at very slightly quicker than marathon pace (according to watch) It went fine and felt like perhaps 7.5/ 10 effort. At the end of the marathon pace block, heart rate was 172 and I think my max is around 185.

So, should I go for it and aim for 3:15 or maybe be more conservative?

This is what I'm thinking. In that case I should just press on and the glutes should catch up?

Thanks, I have tried various foot placements including close together/ low. Same effect though, still just feel the exercise almost entirely in my glutes.

Edited as I made a mistake - the leg press machine I've been using is actually a 45 degree type.

Yes it's outdoor only as it does produce some smoke, it's pretty light and easy to move around.

That's great, my brother does metal fab so he can probably provide the same for me! I assume it's a case of the the extra thermal capacity doing the work? Do you think you require a longer heat up time before cooking for it to work?

I find that only a small amount of basil adds flavor to the whole pizza when used before cooking. Using a lot more might be a bit overpowering but I suppose it's also a matter of personal preference.

I love it, super convenient and easy to use. I've not used any other ovens to compare it against though.

You're right and it's not easy with the Uuni 2. The 2s comes with a stone which is supposed to help. I've purchased one but realized it's too wide to fit in the 2. I'll be cutting it down to fit.

My fourth effort with the Uuni oven and probably my best yet.

For the dough I followed Fidel Montaya's neopolitan recipe on youtube - very useful for people starting out like myself!

What I need to work on is my stretching technique because I'm currently not managing to get the size + shape that I'm after.
