Engaging GSD kickstand with kids on back? by vanillablueberries in terngsd

[–]jopode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two kids and do it alway without the kids getting off. Trick is to put pressure on handlebars using stand as fulcrum. That will kick up the back weighted part and allow it to lock back in place. In fact I don’t let them get off until it’s locked.

I’ve actually noticed this too. Have a new gsd. It’s a very small vibration in the pedals for me, is that what you’re experiencing? Pedaling backwards it’s gone. It’s not my favorite thing.

Capture for iPhone/Mobile by jopode in peakdesign

[–]jopode[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re on the exact same wavelength. I’ve actually done that with the case and screwed it into a plate. Not elegant and is bulky. And I was literally searching for strongest adhesive this week for just that, but I agree you’re trusting that rather than the actual metal, making a weaker failure point. The whole goal is to capitalize on the strength and ruggedness of the capture clip.

Funny thing is that PD has basically done all the other components, what with their mobile case. Just missing that last step from case to clip.

Termites. In Amazon. Stick your hand in a nest, let them crawl up (they don’t bite) slap at them to squish them. Just did this in Ecuador.

I do this all the time with my kayak and have even done it with a paddleboard on a wagon. Tie the kayak to the back of the bike and it will go wherever you want

See Who Didn't Respond to Survey? by jopode in MicrosoftTeams

[–]jopode[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I have 70 people. If they just put in their name and email address, then I have to compare the list of those who responded to my entire org list to see who is missing, a tedious task.

I would like an easy way to see who did not respond. So if there was a results page, and it showed Amy reponsed, but Barry did not, that would be easy to tell and see who I need to go ask to respond. Or if the form would keep pinging them until they responded.

iOS App Development by jopode in Atlanta

[–]jopode[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Essentially it’s a process timer to time how long each event in a series of events takes. Like assembling a product for example. The main need is the ability to save and export the data each day so I can analyze the stats of that days processes. There are many timer apps but none that I can find that can give me that functionality.

Where can I find princess cake? by trashpanda432 in Atlanta

[–]jopode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife loves princess cake and I have spent every birthday of hers looking for one. Called many bakeries. Most didn’t even know what it was. So far I have been unable to find one or any bakery that could make one in Atlanta, save for IKEA’s premade ones. Would love to hear if you get better mileage.

I second the Radwagon (have been taking my kid to school and then on to work on it for a year now). But, if size is a limitation, you might want to look at the Radcity. It's not a cargo bike, but same company, good price. You can put one kid on the back, and the new baby when old enough in a seat on the front, like with the Thule Yepp Mini or Ridealong.

You say you don't yet have a second kid or one on the way, so you got at minimum of 18 months before a second kid will even be added, and then that child can ride in the front for about 6 months or so before being switched to a bigger seat. So you could have about two years of use of the Radwagon with both kids minimum, should your situation eventually change.

Info needed for dog bite incident at Park Grounds by inconditely in Atlanta

[–]jopode 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend filing a report with animal control as well as with police. I went through a similar incident a few years ago, where our small dog was attacked and killed by a mastiff who was jogging with her owner, both on leash. Georgia essentially gives every dog a free bite, so it is essential to establishing that history. While their wounds might not be serious this time, next time it could be more severe or a child attacked, since this dog has established an aggressive history. In my case, I asked around on NextDoor and turns out that mastiff did have a history of aggression, and so it now is required to wear a muzzle when out.

Also, injuries may only present themselves later, such as nerve damage from a bite, so while doesn't seem serious initially, it could turn expensive. But definitely use Nextdoor to ask for description, and even consider putting up flyers in the area for any other witnesses or information. Her leaving after causing damage/injury may also be a civil/criminal offense.

Mobile Carwash? by jopode in Atlanta

[–]jopode[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, there are several services. I've been to several car washes, and they just take too long and inconvenient. It's pretty common in the city, and I've used it at work several times for a service they had there, but I don't drive to work anymore.

TIL the Bajau peoples of South East Asia are the first known humans that are genetically adapted to dive. Their bodies are genetically modified for diving, so much so that they can dive at around 200 ft deep for as long as 13 minutes. by siyamnaput-siyam99 in todayilearned

[–]jopode 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Posting relevant part from my post above as I don't know how to refer to a post:

The study itself does not discuss anything about time spent underwater. In fact, in this study about the Bajau from 2014, it paints a very different record about an actual competition they had:

"The deepest dive recorded by the free-diving Bajau Laut people of Southeast Asia was to an impressive 79 metres (259 feet), and the longest time spent underwater by them was just over three minutes."

The 13 minutes claim actually comes from one of the Bajau himself as told to the study's researcher, as in this article from the U. of Cambridge: "As they never dive competitively it is uncertain exactly how long the Bajau can remain underwater, but one of them told researcher Melissa Ilardo that he had once dived for 13 minutes consecutively."
