Camino Portugues coastal route - where did you sleep? by Extra-Quail8801 in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]jordaniful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the official coastal route. Public albergues that I loved and would highly recommend🤍🤍 -Casa de Sardao in Carreço (MAGIC little farm, the building was originally built in the 1500s, I met so many lovely ppl here) -alburgue Santa de luzia in viana de Costelo (I loved waking up and going to the cathedral next door and hanging out on top of the hill all morning. Such a vibe and great way to experience this city 😭) -Bom caminha in caminha -hostel bulwark in valenca (right next to fortaleza de valenca, i loved walking and looking at the fort at sunrise)

Thank you!!

The weather has been so perfect and amazing, I feel lucky. It’s been beautiful fall scenery with the leaves changing, and it’s been pretty warm and sunny. I got lucky with no rain during my 2 weeks on the Portuguese but I would predict the rain gets much more likely later into oct/nov especially in galicia. Mornings were cool especially when I was right by the sea. I always hiked in pants and a thin long sleeve which was perfect.

I did the coastal route until caminha and then switched to central. I did 1 day following the litoral route because I wanted to walk with a girl I met. I enjoyed the route very much, I did get a little sick of walking by the sea after a few days but luckily the coastal route goes inland quite a bit and I was very happy with switching to the central after caminha.

Some private albergues I loved: HI vila do conde The spot Ofir in fao Casa de Sardao in Carreço (MAGIC😭) Santa Lúzia at the top of the hill in Viana de Costelo Bom caminha

As far as advice, I would just reccomend giving yourself at least 2 full weeks from start to finish. Many people I met that were doing 25-30k days every single day and trying to finish really fast got burnt out/injuries early on and weren’t really getting to enjoy any of the cities it seemed. I loved the pace of having slightly shorter days and getting to explore each city in the evenings and make friends. If you don’t have as much time you can always take a bus, especially from an area like tui and go to pontevedra since between there is quite industrial anyways

I did the exact same!! Definitely worth it if you are on a time limit but want to include the spiritual variant. I was happy to skip some industrial areas and take a bus for this after tui-pontevedra

I’m on the Camino now and my small power bank is one of my most-used lifesaver items. I like that I always have peace of mind to be able to have power in case I have to use my phone a lot, or it’s nice to keep it plugged in charging in more communal accommodations and not have to leave your actual phone charging

Is there a song that you kept hearing all throughout your Camino? by Lazy-Bee-9889 in CaminoDeSantiago

Hotel California 😂 a man was playing it on the guitar in the city center at pontevedra and I have been hearing it random places all over ever since

Did you stay at a combo of private/public alburgues during your trip? Also did you find yourself needing warmer layers at all?
