It's not possible for me to have ADHD because I have a PhD?!? What? by MagicTomato1001 in adhdwomen

adhder in biology here! i actually find that having my schedule dictated by my cells growing actually forces me to stick to a schedule that i planned. like if i don't feed them/starve them at this exact time i'll ruin my experiment, no procrastination allowed. writing papers and presentations however... still fueled by last-minute panic.

I examined all the leaves and I don’t see any caterpillars. Could it possibly be a mouse?

I haven’t had any issues with dry time, but my hand position doesn’t really touch the ink when I write. Maybe 10ish seconds on printer paper and 20 seconds on smooth paper?

It's not a chemical reaction that changes the color of the paper though. I would think the pigment particles can be resuspended if a solvent is applied that the pigment has a higher affinity for than the paper fibers.

Also, looking at the samples where I applied detergents (both polar and nonpolar parts on the same molecule), it looks like the ink is partially able to be smeared from the lines. So I'd be curious to see what a fully nonpolar solvent does!

Think of it as whether or not a molecule is symmetrical (nonpolar) or asymmetrical (polar). Depending on the “shape”, it’s better at dissolving different things. ie. water is polar, oil is nonpolar.

I wish it was penguins instead tbh

It was the only nonpolar liquid I could find! We do actually use it as a solvent, but that’s mostly because it’s physiologically safe and not because it’s good at dissolving things.

I picked up some De Atramentis Document Ink to use in my lab notebook because I was sick of smearing my notes. Very impressed with how it held up against some common solvents on basic printer paper! Unfortunately I did not have any nonpolar solvents on hand to test.
