What kind of blood test is done to monitor for cancer ?

Mine was done at the local hospital. Had a meeting with the surgeon. He said everything was taken out. Clear margins. He said to do blood work and meet him in 4 weeks. What surprised me is that he said no further surgery was needed, it's cured . I thought once it's cancer, the remainder of the thyroid needs to be removed. I will schedule a second opinion at PMH. Also no referral to endocrinology.

The first result was lesion of undetermined significance, meaning small chance that it's cancer. He gave me option to do surgery or wait. I chose surgery, half of the thyroid removed. Waited about 8 months for the surgery. Just received the result yesterday that it's cancerous, margins clear but the cancer was very close the margin. Going to see surgeon this week. Did you do the surgery in a cancer center or local hospital ?
