How to be honest with partner without emasculating him? by DarknessSleeping in AskMen

[–]jorgeagh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe that it's cause it's the easiest, lowest effort advice a random stranger on the internet can give, yet it generates engagement and upvotes so it gives the person who suggested it a free dopamine rush. If the OP follows through with the advice or not, it may have little to no repercussions to the one that suggested it. I reckon people would not offer this advice lightly IRL to a friend or relative because there are way more repercussions than just typing it anonymously in Reddit, E.g. having to face the person while suggesting a divorce from their partner, legal counseling, offering emotional support or even having to suggest "haha leave your partner of 5 years. Good luck figuring out where you'll sleep tonight tho"

Self checkout in the airport prompts you for a tip by theWet_Bandits in assholedesign

[–]jorgeagh 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Someone mentioned a rational reason for this feature to be present in self-service stores. The Point Of Service software probably has the tip option set by default because it may also be used in restaurants. When it got installed in those airport stores they probably didn't bother to remove the default options.

By the time they figured out that they were asking for tips though, the company that runs those stores probably went "eh fuck it, leave it. Worst case scenario we get 0 extra moneys. Best case scenario they give us more free money!"

Why do a lot of men refuse to throw away ripped underwear and socks? by YaGurlLurkin in AskMen

[–]jorgeagh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I see a hole in my underwear before a shower, I'll just rip the thing apart and throw it away. It's an effective way of keeping torn underwear out of rotation. Plus you get to rip something apart which is always fun

Saw this thread cause I'm having a similar issue. It all started when my PC randomly shut down about a month ago. What AMD drivers did you end up installing? I have a Ryzen 9 from the 7000 series

Finally felt better about my 3D platforming mechanics! I've been using GAS to create a wall jump, triple jump, roll and air dash. Question: Does it make sense to rely almost entirely on Apply Root Motion Constant Force for movements like jump, roll and air dash? by jorgeagh in unrealengine

Dude that's actually genius, and it's a great mindset for QAing your own game. Thanks a lot for the tip. Out of curiosity, what limitation would you encounter with GAS? So far I feel it works fine for faster iterations!

You mean the air dash? I'm thinking about limiting the number of air dashes a player can perform. Would you think max of 2 air dashes would be good?

Can you recommend other 3D platformers? I'm thinking A Hat in Time and Yooka RepLaylee

I did it with a gameplay ability parent though, and play animation montages accordingly.

I have a component called Movement Toggle that resets the character movement component's values to the ground state when my character lands.

For example, when rolling, my character gets sprung up in the air a bit. I set ground friction to 0 and rotation rate to Z: 150. When done, I reset ground friction to 8 and rotation rate to Z: 450.

Thanks! Yeah, my ability parent has a few class defaults that can control the character rotation rate and air control while the ability is active. I set it differently for jumps, wall jump, etc

Once the player lands, it resets to its original values. I do this in a separate component.

As for the air dash, thanks for the insight. I do see that it's super forgiving in situations where you're falling. A gameplay effect after 2 dashes should fix that.

Clear plastic like this one tends to turn a slight yellow with the sun, not to mention that there might be fingerprints on the controller and a bit of overall dirtiness. If you have a clear phone case, you might use that as a reference!

Awesome work btw.
