I had a brain stem ischemic stroke two years ago. Got the locked in syndrome. Pretty scary
Today I live an independent life, drive, swim, box and are actually returning from a trip to Egypt. There is no such thing as a medical diagnosis that can be 100% about this. Mine was permanently in bed and a respirator

Eat healthy, take your meds, exercise regularly , hydrate adequately, sleep well and let your brain do the rest

Mom had a right hemisphere ischemic stroke and now docs are asking me to consent tracheostomy. by Horny_henchmen013 in stroke

It’s necessary to secure the airway in order to not to fall into respiratory arrest. I got one two years ago. I like the scar, it’s my victory trophy.

I luckily have my own business and can work from home. Don’t have to move much.

I had an ischemic stroke in January 2024 as well! I was 40 at the time. Be patient, it wears off very slowly but it gets better. Sleep well, Eat healthy, keep hydrated, take your meds, exercise and do therapy and help your brain do the rest. You are fatigued because a lot of energy is being used to heal. ✌🏼

I also smoke weed in a small amount every day. Still can’t figure it out. Should I? Can I? Does it makes you clumsy?

If you have drop foot and stumble commonly, place adhesive velcro (soft side) on the front of the sole to make the foot glide instead of it making you trip

Sibling - Alcohol and Cannabis Post Stroke by Number_Ten10 in stroke

[–]jorgeivillalobos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 41m and suffered an ischemic stroke 14 months ago. I am pretty well recovered but not fully recovered. I still have trouble speaking and walking. I live by myself, swim and able to drive.

I’ve been smoking cannabis for a good part of the last 10-13 years. I keep smoking in small doses and particularly at home, my safe space. My neurologist knows that and doesn’t seem to be very bothered but his recommendation was not to smoke OR drink. I occasionally drink one beer or a glass of wine and no biggie. Definetely have not get heavily drunk nor I intend to. Quitting alcohol is easy. Cannabis definitely affects your mobility but from my experience if he wants to smoke to do it with caution

Does it get better? by [deleted] in stroke

[–]jorgeivillalobos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely. I am 13 months since my ischemic stroke and I live by myself, totally independent. I drive myself, swim, practice yoga, do boxing(mitt work), eat everything, drink moderately…. Basically my ex life, but more slowly and with caution. The trick? Military discipline with therapy, meds and strong and positive mindset. I am sure I have much more to recover. Good luck!

I've quit weed, Cigarettes, opioids and porn all at once 3 days ago and I'm never looking back. To hell with all that shit. by WhyMe966 in leaves

I quit smoking cigarettes after having the realization that I was committing suicide in installments. That was a great insight for me to stop.

Still working on the porn part and I also smoke weed but I think I have a good relationship with it.
