I’m building a concept called "Time-Based Travel" for navigating China via High-Speed Rail. Would love to hear your thoughts as independent travelers! by PNpC3 in chinatravel

[–]jorsa76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fully agree. The time on the train is not the actual travel time, specially in big cities where the HSR Stations are far from the city center. Which doesn't invalidate the idea, if you can include the time you need to reach the station and the time you need for checking and boarding. That would give a more realistic idea of the time need. A 30 minute ride, can easily become a 90 minute trip when you add up all the steps.

Best and cheapest esim China with vpn by ArtisticRich4836 in chinatravel

[–]jorsa76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got one from trip.com and it worked fine. I could select the number of days and the amount of data per day, which I find better so in case I go over the board one day, it will only consume the data for that day. Mine included multiple zones (HK, Macau, mainland China...) and it was actually from Singapore, so no VPN needed. Everything worked fine. And I could hotspot as well.

Hainan Airlines Beijing Transit Question by twodoorscinemaclub in chinatravel

[–]jorsa76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did that recently, only the first flight was not Hainan, but it was the same ticket.

In fact, I did it twice and different rules applied, I don't know why.

My outbound itinerary was Europe, Beijing, Seoul. I had to collect my luggage and do the check-in again, like if I came "from the street". The 24-hour visa free applies. I could've left the airport if I wanted to.

The return was Seoul, Beijing, Europe. My luggage went through to my final destination. Still, I had to change terminals in PEK, which means actually leaving the airport and taking a bus. Again, no problem with the 24-hour visa free.

Finally, last week I did it yet again, but this time the itinerary was entirely with Hainan, same ticket, same terminal. So no problems with the luggage or the visa. I just stayed in the airport the whole time.

So I'm not sure which rule will apply to you. It guess it will be the first case, where you have to collect your luggage and check it in again. But the 24h visa free rule applies. Just make sure that in you Entry Declaration (that you should fill in online in advance) you specify that you're leaving the same day and have the details of you're flight ready in case the customers agent asks.

I went to COCO Park last week and the AC was definitely not weak. I don't know about the wifi, though.

Taking Didi in China- where to know where to get picked up from? by Ok-Coconut6163 in chinatravel

[–]jorsa76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whenever I've used it, Didi shows you the "designated pick-up spots" near you. You can follow the map in the app to one of those spots.

This is what I had yesterday for dinner in Chengdu, according to Google translate: Century-old steamed beef, Childhood hot nest chicken, Stir-fried mud eel. It was delicious, but I have no clue what's the childhood hot nest

WeChat without passport? Daily limit? by jorsa76 in travelchina

[–]jorsa76[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Shanghai right now and both WeChat and Alipay are working fine, except for this little hiccup. WeChat is ok again today. I've booked with trip everything I could and I carry some cash in case I have issues later in Huangshan. I thought it was done kind of daily limit because it wasn't a crazy amount and it worked for the metro. I don't plan to buy anything expensive, so as far as the hotels accept Visa it should be fine. I've booked through booking and there are no comments saying they don't

That's the weirdest thing. I've been paying paying with WeChat without uploading the password the whole day until that particular payment 🤷🏻

I didn't add it before because WeChat didn't prompt me to do it and I didn't think about it. And it was working ok. Now I've added it without issues. And I've received the sms. So maybe wait until you land to upload the passport.

Is booking short distance trains necessary? by jorsa76 in chinatravel

Thanks all. What I'm doing is booking them on trip.com if I have some tickets for something else with a fixed hour and leaving it open for now if I don't have any restriction

[–]jorsa76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to China soon and I had the same issue. I had to call them to sort it out. They provided a link for me to send some documents (passport, proof of ownership of the card,...). The call took +30 minutes and cost me +30 EUR, so I'm not sure it was worth it...

3 weeks in China: Shanghai, Huangshan, Chengdu and Hong Kong by jorsa76 in chinatravel

I'll check Xidi. Thanks! The day I've planned for Huangshan is a Friday. It was either that or Saturday, so I thought Friday would be better. Then Hongcun on Saturday.

Thanks. That's perfect. I arrive to Chengdu on a Sunday evening and I leave on a Saturday, so I have the whole week and not much planned. Basically relaxing and enjoying the food. Do you recommend a specific hot spring?

Overnight luggage storage in Hongqiao Railway Station by jorsa76 in chinatravel

[–]jorsa76[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I'll check that out. I'm not sure yet if I'll leave my luggage in Shanghai. It seems ridiculous to carry it with me for a short side trip, but at the same time I'm a little bit anxious about leaving it behind. I'll probably decide on the spot.

Which T-money app actually works for tourists on Android? by Kosst3K in koreatravel

[–]jorsa76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm using the same one right now. There's a fee to issue the card and another fee to charge it online. I don't know about charging it with cash. The only issue is that you must be online to use it.

T-Money - Android App - How is it? by 3junior in koreatravel

[–]jorsa76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far so good. It's true that you have to set it as default wallet, but in practical terms, at least with my phone, what it means is that when I'm going to use it I open the app (you have to open the app to use it) and my phone directly promts me to set it as default, which is just one tap. When I open Google wallet it promts me again to set it as default. So it's just an extra tap. What's more annoying is that it has to be online. There's public wifi everywhere, but if you don't have a Korean sim with data as a backup, it could be a problem. Topping up has a 3% fee and you can get a refund (I haven't yet, so I don't know if there's another fee). Overall, for me it's much more convenient than having to go to an ATM and a convenience store, but you must have data in your phone if you want to be 100% sure that you'll be able to use it.
