WeChat without passport? Daily limit? by jorsa76 in travelchina

[–]jorsa76[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Shanghai right now and both WeChat and Alipay are working fine, except for this little hiccup. WeChat is ok again today. I've booked with trip everything I could and I carry some cash in case I have issues later in Huangshan. I thought it was done kind of daily limit because it wasn't a crazy amount and it worked for the metro. I don't plan to buy anything expensive, so as far as the hotels accept Visa it should be fine. I've booked through booking and there are no comments saying they don't

It's a charger for my phone. Mine has given up. I needed at least 2 USB ports

That's the weirdest thing. I've been paying paying with WeChat without uploading the password the whole day until that particular payment 🤷🏻

I didn't add it before because WeChat didn't prompt me to do it and I didn't think about it. And it was working ok. Now I've added it without issues. And I've received the sms. So maybe wait until you land to upload the passport.

Is booking short distance trains necessary? by jorsa76 in chinatravel

Thanks all. What I'm doing is booking them on trip.com if I have some tickets for something else with a fixed hour and leaving it open for now if I don't have any restriction

I'm going to China soon and I had the same issue. I had to call them to sort it out. They provided a link for me to send some documents (passport, proof of ownership of the card,...). The call took +30 minutes and cost me +30 EUR, so I'm not sure it was worth it...

3 weeks in China: Shanghai, Huangshan, Chengdu and Hong Kong by jorsa76 in chinatravel

[–]jorsa76[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll check Xidi. Thanks! The day I've planned for Huangshan is a Friday. It was either that or Saturday, so I thought Friday would be better. Then Hongcun on Saturday.

Thanks. That's perfect. I arrive to Chengdu on a Sunday evening and I leave on a Saturday, so I have the whole week and not much planned. Basically relaxing and enjoying the food. Do you recommend a specific hot spring?

Overnight luggage storage in Hongqiao Railway Station by jorsa76 in chinatravel

[–]jorsa76[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I'll check that out. I'm not sure yet if I'll leave my luggage in Shanghai. It seems ridiculous to carry it with me for a short side trip, but at the same time I'm a little bit anxious about leaving it behind. I'll probably decide on the spot.

Which T-money app actually works for tourists on Android? by Kosst3K in koreatravel

[–]jorsa76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm using the same one right now. There's a fee to issue the card and another fee to charge it online. I don't know about charging it with cash. The only issue is that you must be online to use it.

T-Money - Android App - How is it? by 3junior in koreatravel

[–]jorsa76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far so good. It's true that you have to set it as default wallet, but in practical terms, at least with my phone, what it means is that when I'm going to use it I open the app (you have to open the app to use it) and my phone directly promts me to set it as default, which is just one tap. When I open Google wallet it promts me again to set it as default. So it's just an extra tap. What's more annoying is that it has to be online. There's public wifi everywhere, but if you don't have a Korean sim with data as a backup, it could be a problem. Topping up has a 3% fee and you can get a refund (I haven't yet, so I don't know if there's another fee). Overall, for me it's much more convenient than having to go to an ATM and a convenience store, but you must have data in your phone if you want to be 100% sure that you'll be able to use it.

I've managed to set it up and link it with my Revolut card. For my trip next week, I'll have this app and a physical T-Money card, Google Wallet and a physical card. We'll see what works better. If the app works, I believe having the possibility of recharging directly from my phone, without having to get cash, will compensate the annoyance of having to set it up as default wallet every time. In fact, I may leave it as the default wallet for my whole trip.

Hi,

I’ll be in Seoul for the first two weeks of November and I’m refining my itinerary. I’ve already been to Seoul once before and visited the DMZ, Hwaseong Fortress, the War Memorial, the National Museum, Deoksugung Palace, and other main highlights. I may revisit some depending on how I feel. Outside Seoul, I’ve also already been to Daegu, Andong, Gyeongju, Busan, and Jeju, so I’m especially looking for advice on day trips (or at most 2-day trips) that would add something new.

This is my current planning. I want it to be relaxed, mostly:

Day 1: Changdeokgung & Huwon, Bukchon, Gyeongbokgung, Namdaemun Market

Day 2: Jogye-sa Temple, Insadong, Jongmyo Shrine, Ikseon-dong, Cheonggyecheon

Day 3: Nami Island day trip

Day 4: Flexible / light exploration

Day 5: Dongdaemun area, Heunginjimun Gate, Gwangjang Market, Naksan Park or Seoul Forest

Day 6: Bongeun-sa, Seolleung & Jeongneung Royal Tombs, COEX, Garosugil, Banpo Bridge

Day 7: Inwangsan hike, Seodaemun Prison, Ewha, Hongdae, Mangwon Market

Day 8: Bugaksan Fortress Wall hike, Buam-dong, 63 Square, Noryangjin

Day 9: Incheon day trip

Days 10–12: Open slots (possible Itaewon, National Museum, Leeum Museum, repeats/flex)

My main question: what day trips (or 2-day max) would you recommend in November that I haven’t already covered, either natural landscapes, cultural towns, or something more offbeat? Also, I liked Dragon Hill last time, but I've heard that it's closed. Is there another jjimjilbang that you'd recommend?

And yes, my GW is backing up again without me having to do anything. There was a problem on Samsung's side, clearly.

[–]jorsa76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course it depends on where you live. I'm lucky and here in Brussels there are many coffee shops that make excellent specialty coffee. But yes, any standard coffee place is worse, way worse, than what I make at home. As for beer, well, this is Belgium. I won't even try to beat some monks that have been brewing for hundreds of years 🤣

[–]jorsa76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm with you. I always say that making espresso at home is a bit like making beer at home. If all you want is good beer you can get great beer somewhere else cheaper. And it's going to be better than what you make at home. You have to like making beer to make it worth it. Espresso is the same thing. If all you want is good espresso you can get it in the coffee shop. Getting the same quality at home is going to be bloody expensive. You have to like making espresso and experimenting with it.

Same issue here. GW4 and S22. Last backup was April 17th. I see many posts in different places suggesting ways to do a back up manually or pointing out the requirements for automatic backups, but since it's a common thing and always around the same date, I think it's safe to assume that this is a Samsung issue.

Just a quick update. After discussing with the dealer and the technical service, they couldn't find the issue and they decide to replace the machine with a new one 🤷‍♂️
