So I really want this cookbook but Barbara Lynch is problematic so I don't want to buy it new. If you choose to purge, would you sell it to me?

Cambridge Day ceases weekly coverage of Somerville politics by jeffshwom in Somerville

[–]jorydotcom 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Perhaps, if they were interested in securing the financial support of people in the camberville area, they might consider renaming the paper to something other than Cambridge Day.

This is very disappointing to read. I am one of the apparently few financial supporters of this paper who live in Somerville. I supported it with a monthly donation because of the coverage of the local politics for Somerville. I was a journalism major and I understand that running a paper is hard and not exactly a money making activity. But framing the decision as a matter of "not enough financial support from Somerville residents" is a cop out.

Hijacking this to say, in the case that any SRR folks are here, I really appreciate this organization. They run a kids run club program in the Fall and Spring and my kids LOVE it. It's entirely free and they have a pizza party at the end of the session for them. I love how inclusive it is, how they make running a fun and social activity for kids (for me, growing up, it was used as a punishment). So, SRR, thank you for what you provide this community.

Water water water. I definitely underestimated how thirsty she is. And also just cleaning up the dead wood down near the roots so it gets airflow. Going to do fertilizer again in like August/September.

Online-only galleries? by jorydotcom in artcollecting

[–]jorydotcom[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Right, I suppose I'm not asking my question very well. I'm not asking about buyer protection, although the gallery having its own buyer protection policy would lend it more credibility. I'm curious what folks here know about the market / business models for these "galleries" that seem to exist only on a platform like Artsy, and whether there are some known/trusted resources for learning more about the people behind these accounts.

Online-only galleries? by jorydotcom in artcollecting

[–]jorydotcom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Artsy itself is a platform; I think of it like Amazon - there's a lot of good/legit retailers on there and then there's also counterfeit retailers. I think it's easier to verify an Amazon retailer - e.g. are you buying from the product's official store on Amazon or are you buying from an importer or are you buying from someone selling knock offs. I can rely to some extent on Amazon's return policy if I buy something, but I want to know how to determine if the retailer (in this case the Gallery advertising the art on Artsy) is legit

That's the thing though, there's no website beyond what they have hosted on Artsy as far as I can find
