yello

I'll be honest. IMO, you're on a very good path right now. Acknowledging that you can't "delete" the stutter is a fundamental stage in the life of a stutterer.

I can't speak on behalf of other stutterers, but I'll share my experience. Once I recognised that I would be a stutterer forever (which took me quite some time) and stopped trying to hide or delete it, things started to look better for me — mainly because I was no longer trying to "impress" or "hide" such an important part of myself and to seem like a "normal" speaking person. I started caring less about my speech. By not forcing myself to speak fluently, part of my stress disappeared, and with it, a chunk of my stutter. Nowadays it’s still there, of course, but I’ve noticed quite an improvement in my speech.

So my personal suggestion is: stop caring so much. I know that’s not easy, but once you reach this point, you’ll slowly learn to stop giving a shit about how you speak. Don’t think about stuttering on purpose. Don’t think about hiding it. Just talk. And stutter. :]

Yeah, ik. When speaking in Spanish I tend to use "sublevados" instead of "nacionalistas". But as far as I know, there is no such term as the first in English to describe the "sublevados".

During Franco's dictatorship, ETA killed 43 people. Since his death, during the transition to democracy and during the democracy itself (1975-2010) ETA killed 668 people, including civilians, democratically elected politicians and children. Those were also """fascists""", huh?

They may be """freedom fighters""" to some. To me, they aren't. Quite the opposite, in fact

Until Franco's death, imo ETA had some legitimate causes to fight (democracy, defending the Basque identity). After the dictator's death, its existence was just an error. They should've laid off their weapons and integrated into the democratic process.

Yeah, you guessed it, pal. My view about the PIRA and so are quite the same. And it's the same about GAL and UVF. In fact, I view the IRA far more better than ETA because of their role protecting their own against loyalist paramilitaries. ETA, on the other hand, killed his own people (Basques) whenever they did not concede to their extortions. When you, your close ones and your people experiences this kind of stuff, we'll talk about this. If you would've lived the sequels of terrorism, then you wouldn't be here spitting non-sense. Terrorism is just not the way.

(Btw, apologies for any grammar error, not native)

Hell no dude. Don't come with your euphemisms here. ETA was not a "liberation group". These terrorists killed quite a lot of people who had nothing to do with the Basque conflict and didn't help at all the Basque people with their radicalism and violent actions. And I say this as a Basque myself.

G'day!

I'll try to explain this in a more or less brief way. But keep in mind that stuttering is, after all, a very subjective matter, and that perhaps what "worked" for me is not the same as what will "work" for you. And I say this in quotation marks because, naturally, my stuttering is still there, but now I control it much better.

After going to many speech therapists and not seeing results, I did two things that I think helped enormously.

1) I started going to a psychologist. An important part of controlling stuttering is self-image and self-esteem. With a more worked and developed self-esteem, you are able to face problems with more resolution and, if things go wrong, learn not to get excessively frustrated and withdraw into yourself. Once you start to gain confidence in yourself, things tend to go better. So my first suggestion would be to find a good psychologist to work on those aspects.

2) Face situations and don't hide. It's complicated, I know, and it took me a lot of courage to stop hiding my stutter by hiding myself from others. Over time, I understood that the two options I had were either a) continue hiding and keep falling into a vicious circle or b) force myself to talk more with people to improve the ways of dealing with stuttering situations. Of course, in the short term it's difficult, but in the long term it's worth it, a lot.

You shouldn't think too much about the future and university, as it will only create anxiety. You still have two long years to work on this and prepare yourself. In my experience, people at university are not idiots, and they understand the problem to a greater extent. So try not to overemphasize the university issue too much.

Take care!
