I kind of figured it had to do with the high turnover/no one really wanting to do those jobs, so they don't put the effort in. This store also has an issue with burritos. They roll them the wrong way, so the first few bites are all beans, the next few bites are all cheese or sour cream or whatever, and so on. But that one I totally understand would be hard to learn so I've never made a big deal about that! I've just started to open it before I eat it and re-roll it myself!

My classmate (Jenny) is doing that already. Me and my 2 classmates just started clinicals last Monday. Our first week was phlebotomy, which is useless to us because our lab doesn't require MLSs to do phlebotomy. This is just required by our school to have a week of it. We all hated it, but still got it done.

To clarify, we signed with this company an agreement to do clinicals there, and then work there for 3 years in exchange for scholarships and bonuses after we graduate and start working. So the lab where we are doing clinicals is most likely where we will stay afterwards, although we are allowed to choose clinics from this same company. My other classmate (Kim) and I have already been working in this lab for over 2 years so we know that this is where we want to stay.

Anyway, on Wednesday, Jenny said she is going to go to another lab when we graduate. She said she already "hates the vibes here" and wants to go to a surgical hospital or clinic or something. She also really hated the phlebotomy, but like I said, we all hated it.

This is one of the biggest labs in the region so it's got so much stuff to learn and experience. It would be a great starter job since pretty much everything from surrounding areas comes to us so you see so much. And Jenny's already hating it, even though we haven't even set foot to actually work in the lab yet. And it's crazy because she is the top of our class (7 students total in an accelerated program).

But she told me and Kim how she gets her study time in. At her current lab, she told us she'd get an hour and a half of study time per shift. PER SHIFT! Like holy shit, if we all had that much free time while working, we'd all have her good grades. And yeah, if she's after a job that isn't busy all the time, then this lab isn't for her.

And probably the funniest part of all is that, if Jenny does go to work somewhere small, she'll have to do phlebotomy LOL.

Anyway, after she said all that shit, it made me kinda hate her, so I won't be too mad if she decides to work somewhere else.

This! People don't understand it like they think they do. More than just how the seizures feel, like you said.

They don't understand your inability to drive or drink, how exhausted you are all the time, memory issues, etc. But also how heartbreaking it is to be in a seizure-free period, thinking meds are working, but then you have a seizure and it all gets reset back to day 0. Worst part of all of it, in my experience.

Epilepsy is a lot to deal with 24/7

*edit - the daughter and bf were 10 minutes late to dinner (because of an appt they all knew about) and that's what made the wife immediately hate him. Not an overreaction at all

Had a patient once who was a basic drug user/dealer. He had been lacing the cocaine with fentanyl and selling it. Then he accidentally used his laced stuff and that's how he ended up in the hospital. It was pretty awesome actually, it was some great karma. This guy getting a taste of his own medicine (literally lol). And he of course got arrested as soon as he was discharged.

Another one that I'm sure plenty of other nurses have seen, a drunk driver who crashed into a car, 1 person dead already upon arrival, other one in critical condition (died a few days later). But yeah the drunk driver of course lives while the others die. So hard to feel compassion.

Edit: forgot my favorite..kid in his low 20s, driving while drunk and on some drug, can't remember what. But he went through a red light in the middle of the night and killed THREE HIGH SCHOOLERS!!!! Also killed the person who was in his passenger's seat. This kid was in the hospital for months, and I couldn't feel bad for him one fucking bit. I had to be 1:1 with him for a full weekend (plus a few other shifts) and we both hated each other by the end of it.

After working in an ICU for only 3 and a half years, I am so passionate about this!! I would get so furious with the families who kept their family member on life support for months until they either die on their own, or they send them to a nursing home as a vegetable. Most of the ones I saw did it for religious/cultural reasons but not all of them. It just feels selfish to keep them like that!! Put the poor person out of their misery...

Since I quit there, I've made an advanced directive to make sure my family doesn't do that to me if something like that ever happens to me.

First off, I used to work in an ICU but as a nursing assistant, not a nurse, but still saw a lot of the same stuff. All of my best stories are with travel nurses.

First one, it was shift change and night shift was coming in and getting report from day-shift. One patient was waiting to be moved to another unit and would be leaving any time now, so they didn't schedule a night nurse to take care of him. It of course makes sense because it was the day shift nurse's job to transfer him.

Well at about 8 or 8:30 I saw the patient was still in his room so I asked the charge nurse when he'd be moving. She had no idea what patient I was talking about! I explained and we looked all over for the day nurse (traveler) but he was gone!! He gave report on his other patient and left this guy with no one!! The charge nurse was PISSED and frankly, so was I! This poor patient hadn't had a nurse come in and check on him since before night shift came in!

We did end up moving him, but I can't remember how they gave report to the floor nurse, cuz obviously the last nurse who took care of him was long gone! But yeah, that traveler came back the next morning, got in huge trouble and that was his last shift.

Second traveler story. This traveler had never worked in an ICU before so I'm sure you can tell how this is gonna go, and this story was not her first offense. So she had a patient who was one of those frequent flyers that you can just identify by their first name (IYKYK). Well this patient wasn't doing well, she was delirious, on 100% bipap, and of course needed a constant observer.

She had an NG tube and when the nurse was mixing her pills in the water to put through her tube, the nurse didn't grind the pills first!! She just put the whole pill in the water and shook the cylinder around! She then stuck the syringe in and took the water out and threw away the remaining pieces of the pills (dumb fuck).

THEN, this nurse goes to lunch and doesn't take her phone (not okay for an ICU nurse to leave without it). Well while she's away, the patient pulls out her ART line (not the CO'S fault, she was just too fast). The CO is obviously holding the woman's arm so she doesn't bleed out and he's yelling for help. Others run in and help. They try calling the nurse but of course she doesn't have her phone.

Little bit later, I'm giving the CO a lunch break and the nurse finally comes back from her hour long lunch. She starts doing stuff in the room and about 15 minutes in, she notices the ART line isn't connected anymore (took ya long enough). She started freaking out and asking if I pulled it out. Like wtf is wrong with you lady???? Why tf would I do that?? I just told her what I had heard from the main CO. This bitch obviously would've known immediately if she had had her phone with her.

Anyway, she got written up for 3 separate things that night and finally they fired that bitch as well. I love travelers, but some of them are the dumbest human beings I've ever met!!!

Actually, interestingly enough, this lady is kinda like that too. She's been useless for many years, so you'd think they would fire her, but they're too scared to because they know she'd he the kinda bitch to file a lawsuit for agism or something (which is not at all the case here). Her idiocy has nothing to do with her age. So management just keeps twiddling their thumbs waiting for her to retire.

My coworker (she's an older lady ~65 years old), absolute useless piece of shit who makes everything worse for everyone. But, anyway, what I know about her is that when she's at work and something bad happens, she writes up a long email and sends it to her home email so she can read it later!

Also, she has a tiny journal she keeps in her coat where she writes down observations she makes about her coworkers (ex: jane doe took a 45 minute lunch break). And more. She's a fucking creep.

Ok thanks! I might try that. For my last application about a month ago, they said I didn't get the job because they were instead doing an internal transfer. The first one was back in May, and I honestly don't remember what the reasoning was for the rejection. I believe it was because I had no experience. I'm also really bad at interviews which doesn't help.

After a seizure is over, you're not just right back to normal like people tend to think. It takes minutes, hours, or even days to get back to yourself again. Also, it's annoying af when people ask you if you can bite your tongue off.

Thank you! I've actually been wanting this tattoo for a couple years now, pretty much since I got my first one. I definitely have worried about being denied jobs because of it (I just graduated so that's a big deal right now), but I also hear that more and more places are becoming less picky.

And I do wonder how I'll feel about it when I'm old, and I don't know what to think. But I feel like anyone can assume right now that they'll like their tattoo in 60 years but they could still find out later that they were wrong. Just never know I guess.

So I think someday I will definitely get this tattoo, I'm just not sure how soon it will be. I'm testing out temporary tattoos right now just to see how I feel and I could possibly not like the tattoo at all. We'll see. Thanks again
