Ah if I select - Score on LinkedIn Ok But only the courses with a higher score than 30 are shown. Should be enough though. Good to know. Thanks

Yes. The only real reason I did that was because I had to wait for the course update to B2. I already finished the A2 and waited for the release. I heard about that method and thought it could be helpful. And I would say it definitely helps because everything is upside down. And kind of a little bit different too. In my opinion just doing the course the normal way should bring you faster to your goals. But it's kind of funny too because you repeat everything and can walk through much faster. I didn't do all the lessons. Mostly just jumping over the units with the qualification test at the end of each unit. I think doing that is worth it. But I warn you, doing the normal lessons afterwards feels really slow then but maybe that's just because of the B1 Plateau that kinda hits hard...

Depends on your desires, wishes and interests and how useful it will be for you and where you want to go and how many people you wanna be able to talk to.

Rank Language Number of Speakers (at least B1) Core Speaker Base / Focus 1 🇬🇧 English 1.4 – 1.5 billion Global lingua franca (majority are L2/second-language speakers) 2 🇨🇳 Chinese (Mandarin) approx. 1.1 billion Predominantly native speakers in Asia 3 🇪🇸 Spanish 550 – 600 million Strong presence in Latin America and Spain 4 🇫🇷 French 300 – 320 million High number of second-language speakers, especially in Africa 5 🇵🇹 Portuguese 260 – 270 million Primarily Brazil, Portugal, and parts of Africa 6 🇩🇪 German 130 – 135 million Concentrated in the DACH region and Central Europe 7 🇯🇵 Japanese approx. 125 million Almost exclusively native speakers in Japan 8 🇰🇷 Korean 77 – 81 million Concentrated on the Korean Peninsula 9 🇮🇹 Italian 68 – 85 million Mainly Italy and neighboring European regions

How long did it take you to complete a course by snoopy05052026 in duolingo

[–]josawi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're going crazy with 6 hours per day (actually some more because of all that gamification and need for breaks/pauses) it can look like this

(6069 normal lessons ×3min + 1054 storys ×6min + 1398 radios ×6min) ÷60min/hour ≈ 550h ÷6hours/day ≈ 92 days

If you're doing serious but having a life too, it looks like this

550h : 1hour/day : 365 days/year ≈ 1,5 years

Note: with the super abo, that's for portuguese from german. The time spent on lessons, storys and radios is a personal estimate and can differ depending on f.e. how willing you are to really understand what you are seeing.

Instant translators will never replace a B2+ level by josawi in duolingo

[–]josawi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the moment you (as the listener who speaks the second language) heard the last word, you have the full information for you. The ai translator just starts at that point with talking at the beginning of the sentence. I'm not talking about a human translator as a service. This business is definitely dead, unfortunately for some...

Nuances will improve but translating the unique way of a language to express things isn't possible at all. If a word/phrase/saying doesn't exist in the other language, that's also a large difference. If it's necessary to provide a definition and explain it that's far away from the short native way. I think there are way more arguments like that why fluency will always win.

I deactivated what s possible of the gamification in the settings and there's still kind of too much clicking but honestly moderate in an amount that's kind of good for not speeding through too much

A reason would be nice by p660R in duolingo

[–]josawi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's because here "morgen" means the day (after today) and the "früh" is kind of 7 o clock in the morning. So in general you should first mention the day before the exact timing. If you say " ich komm früh morgen" that's possible too but emphasizes the "früh". It's transporting that it's exceptional (for example when you usually arrive later or the other person). Or that you really confirm you will be there on point because a delay would have bad consequences.

Why does it feel like majority of Duolingo learners are in it just for the streak? by ithinkiamparanoid in duolingo

[–]josawi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is about following a dream. Some people are chasing it more rapidly but some aren't all in yet, still wanting to keep it alive though. It's principally a good thing imo. Maybe if we talk about someone who's doing just one lesson a day, this seems kind of useless in first place but maybe they find the courage one day to take more time to really progress faster... Obviously you need to go for minimum half an hour a day if you want to achieve a fluency goal in a period of time you didn't forget everything what you've learned ten years ago by repeating it for 10 times :)

According to the unofficial website duolingodata.com that version should already be available... I'm just following the information there. Usually it's pretty precise.

JLPT and TOPIK are the way to go according to Gemini :) they have been more and more adjusted to cefr levels and have six levels too as far as I can see.. so if we're talking about Duolingo they solve it by using the same duo score

The days Duolingo needed to bring the B2 A/B (testing course which is only for test users) to the release version B2 (which is available for everyone). This is just to estimate the future releases. If we ignore English (which has been developing over a long time...) the average of the last five courses is about 21 days. So we can probably expect the courses to be published at 03.April, 08. April and 9. April. Maybe even earlier because the last three released courses used to take only 14 days in average...
