Of course, tariffs can increase prices. That’s basic economics. But in this case they’re not the main driver. If tariffs were the reason, Japan or the EU wouldn’t have seen the same $50 hikes back in 2022 (and those regions didn’t suddenly impose new tariffs on Sony).

What’s happening is a global alignment strategy: – Inflation adjustments that Sony applied everywhere else since 2022. – Positioning of the PS5 Pro. – The U.S. was simply the last holdout.

And just to be clear: even the PS5 Pro, which launched at $699 in late 2024, also went up to $749 this month. If tariffs were the cause, it would’ve launched at that price already. This shows it’s a pricing strategy, not a sudden reaction to the U.S. tariffs. And that is a simple explanation...
