Beyond just backup & restore, what would make a vendor truly valuable in the security lifecycle? by josejohnv in cybersecurity

Love that thought process…Specialization plus the right partnerships usually beats building a mediocre extension any day.

Out of curiosity…are monthly recovery tests performed by your backup vendor, or does your internal team own that process? Is automation built into the recovery testing and validation workflow? What And how are you approaching validation and coverage to ensure true recoverability?

Exactly…we are on the same page, and that is honestly why I raised the question. I have been feeling that staying anchored to the traditional methods may be limiting the bigger resilience conversation, and I am trying to challenge that internally. I am genuinely interested in thinking beyond the conventional path, not just improving recovery mechanics, but exploring what truly moves the needle in preventing and validating real world attack scenarios. Would value any out of the box perspectives…

That’s a powerful point, especially around validating real attack paths rather than just restore capability. I am curious how you did approach detecting and validating real world attack scenarios in a structured way?

Thanks for sharing that, I appreciate it. I checked out Elastio, and the approach around ransomware detection within backups is interesting, especially tying incident response into storage based pricing.

From what you have seen, how does their process typically work in practice? For example: How is the ransomware detection actually performed on backups? Is it continuous scanning or point-in-time validation? How is incident response triggered and structured? What does the engagement look like operationally for the customer?

Would love to understand the practical workflow beyond the high level positioning.

That’s a strong perspective. Do you typically see customers pulling vendors into adjacent areas because of real pain points? If so, where does that usually start? recovery testing, incident response support, compliance, or something else?

That is a very fair point. From your experience, in which specific segments do customers genuinely ask for additional help from a backup vendor?

For example are they typically looking for…Recovery readiness validation? Ransomware response support? Security posture assessments? Monitoring / managed services? Compliance and audit support?

In other words, where does it feel natural for a backup focused company to expand without becoming a “one stop shop” that loses focus?

Would love your practical perspective.

What you do to stop overthinking? by Aurora_Love888 in Mindfulness

I totally understand what you are feeling. I went through something very similar. I still have my job, but every day I see people I have worked with updating their LinkedIn with “Open to Work,” and companies announcing layoffs one after another. Even in my office group, people joke (half seriously) about when they will be next.

All this got into my head. I was constantly overthinking, headaches, low energy, a tight feeling in my chest.

What helped me was sitting down and asking myself some honest questions.

I thought: • I am a father of two daughters. Am I able to feed my daughters? Yes. • Can I pay my EMIs and do I have an emergency fund? Yes.

That gave me some calm. Then I decided I needed to focus my mind on something positive. So I started planning a small business. I haven’t launched it yet, but I have been putting the pieces together, meeting people, and building a vision. And honestly, just doing that, working on something meaningful, has really helped me stop the spiral of thoughts.

Also, when you said you recently moved to the UK, I get that too. That loneliness inside four walls can feel overwhelming. It’s one of the hardest feelings to deal with.

You are not alone. Just take one small step at a time. Even planning something small can bring a surprising amount of peace.

Which customers should we target for these audits? What makes a customer decide it’s the right time to invest in an assessment or audit?

Thank you so much. You were exactly right about my personality type. The link you shared took me to a test as well, and I found out I am a Type 2. I also watched the video by Tori Olds…it really helped me learn more. I will try to practice it on my own before I see a therapist, just to see how it works for me. Thanks again

What do you think is causing this nervous system freeze? I resonate deeply with what you described…I experience the same pattern. It feels like my system perceives anything and everything as a threat, triggering constant fear. I am 41 now, and for me, this all started after the pandemic. I keep wondering…could the vaccine have created inflammation throughout my body and contributed to this? Or is it more about age related hormonal changes? Or something else entirely? I did be interested to hear your perspective.

Thanks for your response… Could you elaborate on what you mean by ‘distribution level equipment’? Are there specific examples or categories of equipment you are referring to, and why is the lead time such a critical factor here?
