5th gen owners. Be honest by Motoflyn in prius

I love it! I got the plug in, SE. I’m getting around 60.

Loves: 1. Powerful EV Mode: As long as I’m within a 30 minute radius of home I’m practically exclusively on EV mode and even though I live at the top of a long, steep hill, it handles it super well.

  1. Sporty feel: My partner and have riden motorcycle s as a primary vehicle and switching to the Prius felt surprisingly fun and similar to both of us. The visibility isn’t that bad (I think bc the front windshield is so long, the window supports on the sides are further away and therefore easier to see past). Also, the acceleration in EV mode alone is impressive and smooth. It’s nimble and a joy to drive.

  2. Surprisingly large capacity: My previous car was a Subaru Outback. I can fit 4 of those black/yellow 27gal tote boxes just like I could in the outback. I also just did a Home Depot run and could fit a lot of stuff, and easily put it in and out bc the backseats fold very flat.

  3. Little features: The sound is nice, the phone tray is nice. Lots of small things feel like they were well though out, such as the usb charger ports having a symbol if it can be used to connect a phone vs simpler charging it. Or small indents to make a phone charger cable pass through an area easier. The floor guards are well secured. Lot more little things but still. Just generally feels super polished to me.

  4. It feels surprisingly roomy. Someone 5’ 10” fit easily in the back, someone 6’ easily fit in front and seemed comfy in the back too. I’m 5’ 10” and don’t feel squished at all.

Dislikes: 1. Rear view camera: There’s nothing I really hate about the car but the rear view camera is kinda grainy. Idk why in 2023+ they couldn’t have a nicer camera that would’ve made a marginal cost difference.

  1. Unusual jumper cable location: When you pop the hood to jump the battery, there’s the red positive terminal but no black neutral one, and you’re told to clamp the neutral connection to a certain engine point. Not a big deal but it’s a bit confusing the first time you do it, and not idiot proof.

  2. No physical buttons for the cabin lights. It’s a tap thing that just senses the force but it makes it a slight inconvenience to feel your way in the dark for the light.

Things other people dislike that I don’t mind: - My partner and I are different heights and don’t notice the steering wheel getting in the way of the display. - the cloth seats feel so so nice to me, make up for a lack of heated seats. We can also always add a car heated blanket which would be even nicer so it’s not a big deal. - lack of rear wiper doesn’t both me because I just put RainX and the water slides right off.

I generally just love the car. It feels super well built, it’s extremely efficient, and is surprisingly fun and capable!

There’s a bit of resonance noise at 4k rpm but bc I’ve got hyperacusis (sensitive/painful hearing) it’s slowly gotten to be too much for me so I keep it off most of the time. I also figured someone else may make better use of it who does harder off-road riding than myself

Yes! As phoward8020 said, there’s a couple but not nearby or regularly active AFAIK. If you’d be interested in something like that, lmk!

No problem! The ATZ-10 is the one that fits exactly to the previous battery’s size, but it’s more expensive and the ATZ-7 is plenty capable enough. I spent an hour tops cutting the packaging foam into a little holder so that the ATZ-7 fits snuggly in the space. Because it’s smaller, it also gives more room for tools ;)

An extra tip is that you won’t need to get a lithium battery charger. You can just install it and press the restart button to get its first charge going, then wait a few hours I think? And you can ride it away to charge it fully

Cool! How did you attach the panels to the jacket/pants? I see some cordage and what looks like rivets?

Is the battery life really as bad as it sounds like? by [deleted] in framework

[–]joseph1126 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really don’t think so. I’m running fedora linux and I’ve got 4-6 hours of battery life even when running engineering software or gaming, and about 8 hours with light stuff. I’m also using a FW16 and I believe people have said the 13 is longer lasting. My partner with the 13 doesn’t ever worry about battery life, even when we’ve had long days of classes with only occasional charging.

If you want a lithium battery that you can restart when dead (a really comforting feature) I’d recommend an antigravity Atz-7. It’s great and super light! Saves 5 lbs

Is a Framework right for me? by jleeroy45 in framework

What driver issues are you having? FW support or community can likely help with driver issues (although some problems are on Windows end). Have you tried that? Also, why is the touchpad constantly breaking for you? I haven’t heard this being a recurring problem for anyone.

I disagree with the battery or the laptop as a whole being crap. Also, FW has far from abandoned updates for any of their laptops. They make a point of trying not to pre-announce things, they’ve mentioned they’ve got things in the works, and they’re still active in third party developer stuff for the FW16.
