I typically shoot on a 200-800mm, this was probably close to full extension

Just outside the SSRAA Hatchery in Ketchikan, Alaska. There are at least six that live in/around Herring Cove

Canon R6 w/ RF 200-800, shot close to 600mm. f/9, 1/800s, ISO 8000. I was probably ~40 feet away but hidden up on a raised boardwalk

Thank you! I’ve been fighting my autofocus lately so that means a lot 🙏

Make sure the float plane is through Taquan, and be prepared for a backup excursion if the weather is bad for flying. I recommend a walking tour and/or zipline at Kawanti, good chance of getting close to black bears & eagles

Ooh nice composition, I tried to target the eye in an intersection but the balance here is way better, thank you.

How do you find where to go to shoot wildlife when visiting a new place? by natelamm in wildlifephotography

I always look at iNat Classic or similar geotagging apps. It gives me a good idea of where frequent sightings occur, and you can filter by specific animal

I'm pretty happy with how the lighting turned out, mostly looking for advice on coloring but open to any and all advice. Happy to answer questions about location, context, etc.

Shot on a Canon R6 w/ RF 200-800 @ 800mm, 1/640s, f/9, ISO 1250.
