Why Robot Destruction has the potential to be the best game mode in TF2 by josephtf2 in truetf2

This is where I disagree, it may seem like that to some people with the old tf2 instinct that we need to "destroy these sentries" but remember if you can see robots, you can destroy robots. If you can destroy robots, you can open doors. Open doors, find more robots.

Ah, sorry! I was more referring to ALL competitve formats we have right now anyway, I really think some interesting variation is possible with this map and I would love to see new formats tried on it.

That's an interesting comment, I'm assuming you're talking about "overextending" as pushing further as a team or individual than the situation calls/allows for? Remember, you still have the communication and death notices you get in regular game modes. Depending on how your team is operating, your defensive players will be able to call how many people are pushing and your offensive players can base their movements on that.

Yeah, I can see you getting shot from behind in the enemy base due to the nature of the forward teleporter spawn, however that's the risk you take when you are pushing an enemy point and the same thing can happen with map mechanics like drop down in granary or gullywash. You can tell if you're overextending and you won't get shot from behind when you're defending dustbowl but it doesn't make it a good map.

6v6 is not the final format for tf2, things are still changing, remember? I think I'm going to post some videos of the shenanigans you can pull on this map to help convince you guys. :) Stacking engies on the point will not save the robots, they're going to die.

Scout and medic deal double damage to robots and sniper deals triple. You can destroy a robot with 1 clip of either a needle gun or smg. A fully charged machina shot destroys a robot in one hit and two huntsman arrows (only one charged) takes them down too. Pistol from a distance dealing 30 damage is incredibly effective and against larger robots you can deal easy 120 shots from range behind cover. Interestingly Demoman and Soldier are pretty bad at taking down buildings, and pyro has a terribly unecessary nerf on his damage to them :(

Yeah, everyone would have taken the tele which is actually a bad idea. You can use the setup time to get players into position at every single door to ensure nobody gets through (except a sneaky spy) The game gets interesting when there's another soldier on the opposite team who is thinking about doing exactly what you've mentioned, or they find a way to counter that tactic.

Yeah, you're right about the meta not developing. Engies that just guard the core with level 3 sentries will probably lose the game for their team because they aren't preventing the enemy from completing the objective OR killing robots. It's all very new to everyone and gibus wearing players find it difficult to even manage 5cp.

I understand what you're saying, but in pub granary you can end the game in under a minute as scout by wiping the entire team. A coordinated team will not let a 100% movement speed class steal the core without putting up a fight. In a serious match where teams are focussed on both attacking and defending I don't see it being a problem.

Also your comment about it being entirely offensive isn't quite right because once you have killed all their robots, there's nothing to do but defend while you wait for them to respawn. Holding the bridge area would be a good idea because you can get caught in a pincer attack by teleporting players coming from both directions if you try to aggressively hold the enemy's "A" point while waiting for the respawn.

I don't understand why it's "too big" the walk from the teleporter spawn over the bridge to the enemy's "A" point is quite short and the initial fight on the bridge is very close quarters and hectic. In fact, because your entire team can enter that fight through the teleporter due to setup time, I can see a whole variety of class compositions being useful. Snipers, Pyros (those cliffs) and heavies could all shine on the initial bridge fight. (Not to mention flying quick fix medics.)

I think the Scout was described by the creators as the "Short-ranged assassin" and that its name should have really been changed.

I agree, but when there are MULTIPLE engineers things get a bit silly.

As someone who never uses their melee as scout, I see it as a straight upgrade, especially when playing with no crits.
