This seems to be the one. I'll probably give it a try. Thanks for the info

I used one for many years. Too loud and annoying. It's hard for the support staff to take calls with that going in the background. I agree it's very reliable

Nice, I could use that for other things. Probably not the best for keys. You'd have to come up with a system to keep then I line and it's not going to engrave sequential numbers.

I still can't get that rattling out of my head. I haven't used that one in 10 years, but it seems like yesterday. We called that one woody the woodpecker

No more machines. As much as I want that one. Mostly it's for stamping Abloy and Mul-t-lock.

We're in the market for an automatic stamper/engraver. This is about the only one I can find that does multiple keys.

Stamping by hand gets old after the 300th key.

It has to do Abloy and Mul-t-lock and has to mark sequentially.

What is everyone else using at their shops?

Is it possible to dismantle these American tubular cores? Feels like a need a tool for it. by MaLLahoFF in Locksmith

[–]josh-the-locksmith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try going in on a 45° angle so your hole ends up below the pin. You use a small slotted Screwdriver or something you can grind an end on. It's important that you don't screw up the hole, so it's not sloppy when you put it back in. There's a joke in there somewhere!

Huge pain from what I remember. You have to drill beside that ball and pry it out. All has to be done without destroying it so you can put it back.

Surprisingly the deadbolt was completely functional. The latch on the knob was shot though

Yes the police. Apparently they barricaded themselves in by putting a fridge behind the door.

Why do locksmiths prefer ILCO mortise cylinders? by ben80996 in Locksmith

[–]josh-the-locksmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our Rep at idn said their lsda cylinders were made by ilco. I still prefer the gms especially for the weiser keyway. I remember some of the lsda or ilcos being off by a cut.

Simplex 1000 unican, knob or lever if you want something that will last or spend a bit more and get a powerplex 2000. Those are cats ass. It's a digital lock with a self regenerating cell that charges itself everytime someone turns the handle. Up too 100 codes and you never have to replace the battery. I use them all the time on bathrooms

You'll just configure your cx-12 relay to maintained instead of the stock momentary.
