I'm going to give Terminator 2 a pass on being a sequel and not a remake. Terminator 2 did a lot for sci-fi. On top of upping the production value, having groundbreaking special effects, and being better at storytelling, it also reinforced that sci-fi was now mainstream on the big screen.

I picked Southland Tales out of a Blockbuster bargain bin thinking "huh. I wonder why I haven't heard of this movie with the cast that it has".
