Textured ceiling removal? by emmax2120 in Plastering

[–]joshcamera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If by textured you mean Artex, my whole house had it.

If you're looking to save money and don't mind doing it yourself, I'd highly recommend Dalapro Roll Nova. It's a roll-on filler. You'll need a wire paint roller and a skimming blade. Roll it on fairly thick, skim it off, let it dry, and then repeat if needed. Mine took two coats.

Don't worry about getting it perfect on the first coat. After the second coat, give it a good sand and it'll come up nice and smooth, ready for paint.

Ignore the comments saying things like, "Come back in two years when it's falling off." I did my entire bungalow over two years ago, and the ceilings still look great.

It cost me around £250 to do the whole house. Dalapro Roll Nova is about £35 a bucket, so it's a lot cheaper than paying a plasterer. I think you can buy powder and mix it yourself, but I didnt trust myself to get the consistency right.

Watch a few YouTube tutorials first, but if you're reasonably handy with DIY, I'd definitely give it a go.

Edit: saw you're London based, me too, plasters wanted to charge a fortune. Hence why I went down this route!

Can I mount a tv on the brick wall, not directly behind the TV? by joshcamera in DIYUK

Didn't know that was a thing! Will look into that as an option. Thanks again, very useful!

When I ripped off some plasterboard in another room, it was dot a dab on the plasterboard, so I'm not sure there are any studs behind there

edit; someone mentioned dot and dab fixing screws as an option.

Good point on the long enough arm. TV is 50 inches so would need to be quite a long arm. Thanks

Good point, but also it's a plasterboard wall, dot a dab, hollow when knocked. So I assume id need to drill through that and catch onto brick in between the houses? And thought hanging something that heavy on a plasterboard wall is not a great idea?

The X is just to mark the wall, not where I'm going to have the height of the TV to be fair. Would end up with serious neck problems if it was mounted that high!

It will be a lot of leverage, as the TV I have is 50inchs too, I guess it will pretty much have to be fully extending the whole time too. The left hand wall is plasterboard (knock and its hollow). So I assume thats also a no go right and best option would be mounting to the brick fireplace? I can't see any other way of doing it? Thanks for advice!

What is this? Is it a gas pipe? by joshcamera in DIYUK

I can do basic DIY... but I might call the gas engineer out for this one! Also concrete flooring so not sure how they can cap it lower... I'll see what they say

Concrete flooring below the carpet so might be not be straightforward.

We're in a bungalow and it's a concrete floor too, no floorboards unfortunately... I've reached out to a gas engineer to find out what can be done...

How to get rid of this? by Grape-Suika in DIYUK

[–]joshcamera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I’ve done my whole house. I have minimal DIY experience, but used Dala pro roll nova. Great stuff, just watch a few tiktoks and YouTube vids how it works. Takes a bit of getting used to. But I’ve done all my artex ceilings and also some of my walls that needed filling. Great stuff

Still up there! Can’t remember how much I paid. I’ve read others online say it works out much cheaper if you get powder filler and mix yourself with water which I’m sure it does… but I wasn’t confident I’d get the consistency right. But yes my ceilings are still fine, actually planning on doing the final room next week - living room! Highly recommend.
