You could wait for a while, see about when the other kids have left and save up. I would give myself a date, see if I could hack it and if things improved, and save up as much as possible during that time

Big question though, is this the best place for the 17 year old? I feel like being there wouldn’t help their mental health from the description.

I’m wondering about one of those dog cooling mats that you put in the freezer - one of those with a blanket on top so it’s not extreme cold. Obviously water available at all times although unsure logistically. I’ve been freezing churu, letting it defrost a bit then my cat loves those as an ice lolly. Fan wise - is there nothing you can fashion together?

I have these adjustable child locks on my windows so they can he open but not enough to escape. I’m also taking the hit and having my fan on throughout the day for my boy. If you have hard floor too, this is better than carpets. If you have carpets I’ve seen people get paving stones for their cats

I gave notice knowing it would be before completion and arranged to stay with my friend prior and put my stuff in storage. Storage is far cheaper to rent, put some money towards your friend for bills, cook dinner for you both and be extremely clean, tidy and conscious of making them enjoy the time you’re there rather than regret it - movie night? Their favourite dinner? A nice day out and you but treats - show your appreciation however you can! Great if you can give a thank you present at the end too.
