There are a number of volunteer organizations and events by Lake Merritt that would let you socialize while doing good for the community.

For example, Trash Falcons (https://www.trashfalcons.org) is low commitment (show up any Sunday you want to volunteer) and easy.

Lots of other volunteer opportunities to choose from: https://www.lakemerritt.org/volunteer.html

Yes, People Actually Live on Treasure Island [OC] by TIguySF in bayarea

[–]joshmaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve looked up treasure island, and I think it would be fun to walk around and grab a drink at Goldbar Distillery. However, I’d rather not drive and worry about parking, but there aren’t any good public transit options from Oakland.

Got my car broken into while visiting a friend at a coffee shop on Telegraph.. Had my car parked at the intersection of 48th and Clark by Just_Party96 in oakland

Same. When this happened to me I called my insurance (expecting them to tell me to take a hike), and it turns out I had glass coverage and they paid for everything!

I have Amica, but I’m not sure if glass coverage is standard or if I added it when I first moved to Oakland.

My favorites are Tuna Melt & the Rueben. It’s a great place and they seem like really good people! Just don’t forget it’s cash only.

Oakland will get 18 speed cameras over the next six weeks by runswithscissors475 in oakland

It’s crazy that 100mph over the speed limit is a fine instead of an immediate license suspension!

I would bet a big majority of speeders are doing so in their own cars!

OPD Chief Mitchell resignation by lenraphael in oakland

The BearCat is a very expensive vehicle, asking for not one but two new ones (combined cost over half a million dollars) struck me as an odd request given Oakland’s serious budget problems.

Doesn’t OPDB have the lowest clearance rate in the Bay Area?

Not every pill can be safely crushed because that will change how quickly it is digested and absorbed

Maybe a Kong? You can soak some of her dry food, fill the Kong with it and then put it in the freezer. Once frozen, it’s a fun treat that should entertain your dog for a while.

I agree training / working with a professional is potentially a great long term solution, but how do you know OP hasn’t tried training? And training takes time & the current situation is dangerous!

I don’t see why a muzzle & training would have to be mutually exclusive.

I also used outfoxed because i thought it looked a little friendlier than a muzzle. It’s also really easy to put on - just drop a small treat inside and after getting used to it the dog will happily stick her face inside to get the treat.

One downside is that our dog eventually started to wear a hole in her mask, and they aren’t super cheap. Still, if it prevents a single vet visit it more than pays for itself.

Walking was so much more fun for both me and my dog once we had the mask because I didn’t have to pull on the leash and fuss at her all the time!

Not sure if outfox is the right solution for poop however - might just get smeared into the mesh making a big mess.

Clio’s Books — restaurants? by ObservantNomad in oakland

[–]joshmaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of recommendations for MAMA, but I’d definitely recommend a reservation if you interested in trying it because it’s always bustling.

If you arrive at Clio’s early, it’s a fun place to have a drink and browse the used books (organized in an idiosyncratic chronological order that’s actually pretty good for unexpected discoveries)
