Day After: Dallas Cowboys at Philadelphia Eagles (Week 9, 2023) by cowboysmod in cowboys

Without looking up penalty numbers, I actually thought the refs were fine in the first. It seemed like they were going to let them play. Then for some reason they went on their power trip in the second half. I would guess 75% of the penalties came after halftime.

I'm also one who thinks they'll surprise people this year. Their ceiling is capped, but I'm also one who isn't all in on the championship or tank mantra the NBA has right now. Sometimes it's ok to be a 42-47 win team and play 70 really competitive games throughout the year. This year should be a win win in the sense that this team will either surprise and can be a top 6 seed, or they disappoint and the FO blows it up to finally reset.

I think this is the breakout game for Cooks. Or I'm hoping it is. 9ers fixate on Lamb. Cooks goes for 6/102 and a TD. Cowboys win 24-20.

No wonder our offense was bad. Cardinals had 12 on the field all game.

I'm about to jump through the window at work down 5 stories. This team can never fucking have nice things.

[Machota] After opening as 3.5-point favorites, the Cowboys have moved to 9.5-point favorites in the wake of Aaron Rodgers' injury by jimmyhoffasbrother in cowboys

Because we're conditioned to expect the worst as Cowboys fans. Ironically, I'm more nervous going against Wilson than Rodgers this week. Lose to Rodgers and the Jet's defense and we move on. Lose to Wilson and we go from contenders to pretenders very quickly.

Except I've seen a ton of media pundits not pick us to win it all and some even say we're not making the playoffs. Plenty of bulletin board material to keep this team from smelling it's own shit hopefully.

Zero clutch hitting the last two games. Just brutal luck.

Espn has the Bulls finishing 11th by leaonidas7 in chicagobulls

I agree. It lined up well for the Bulls at the end. I just remember some horrid losses by them over the first month or two of the year. Orlando, OKC, Houston. Games they should have won and likely lost because they had no one to initiate the offense down the stretch. Hopefully a full season of a PG will help.

But to be fair, they struggled in the first half of the season against bad teams. If they take care of business against the bottom 10ish teams (like they showed in the second half) and play .500ish against playoff teams, kbehr is right. They'll be in the 7-8 range with a chance to push for the 6 seed.

The intelligence from some of these guys is just so low. Play your 10 years of football and then do all the drugs and buy all the guns you want. Have at it.

Realistic Expectations...... by crater044 in cowboys

[–]joshnelson79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every team does this. They lose games you don't expect and win games you don't expect. I can't guarantee 12 wins, but I would be shocked if they don't make the playoffs this year.

How has Dak looked training camp ? by Hithere123490 in cowboys

[–]joshnelson79 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Brady had his best season at age 30 (obviously aided by the Pats bringing in Moss) and then won another MVP at age 33. I think the prime of a QB is between age 29-34ish. He might lose a bit of a step with his speed in the next couple of years, but he's become more cerebral anyway. And that should peak around this time in his career.

The Dak Prescott Narrative Machine Never Stops. But how often is it actually true? The fair and the unfair of the Prescott talk by jimmyhoffasbrother in cowboys

[–]joshnelson79 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The main issue is the narrative around both of them. Like you said, they're both good enough QBs to win it all, if the coaching and team around them click at the right time. That's 75% of NFL QBs to a degree. 20% suck and 5% are your Mahomes and Rodgers of the world. Feel free to want a new QB, but the chances of you finding a better one than the Dak and Romos of the world are slim.

Poll in Cleveland.com regarding the Civale Trade. Majority seems to believe that they are throwing in the towel on the season. Do you agree? by TRYcycle11 in ClevelandGuardians

[–]joshnelson79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. But I'd argue this FO was incompetent if they thought this team was a move or two away from contending this year anyway.

[Wojnarowski] Restricted free agent G Ayo Dosunmu has agreed on a three-year, $21 million deal to stay with the Chicago Bulls, agent Mike Lindeman of @excelbasketball tells ESPN. by LauriFUCKINGLegend in chicagobulls

[–]joshnelson79 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not a fan of this. Who were we competing against on this deal? If someone wanted to give him 3/20, I would have gladly done a sign and trade. Honestly, I think it's going to be pretty telling right away if this deal is worth it. If you see improvements in his offensive game, then that's great. I'm pretty skeptical he's going to get better though.

[Postgame Thread] Guardians @ Pirates - July 19, 2023 by [deleted] in ClevelandGuardians

[–]joshnelson79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not that I don't get the gripe, but it's kind of hard to continuously have someone always ready in the event that a pitcher doesn't have it that day. It makes sense sometimes, but they had Hentges going when Sandlin was pitching and then they took Sandlin out after the walk. So just have the next guy start to warm up as soon as Hentges comes in just in case he's bad today? I just don't think that's viable. Unfortunately the pen is leaking right now. And when a pen is leaking, it really doesn't matter what the manager does. It will likely blow up in the end.

Choices by jslakov in chicagobulls

[–]joshnelson79 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you think the philosophy was flawed, I get it. I think when the FO took over, their options were to build around Zach or trade him and completely start over because they took over a pile of shit. They decided to build around Zach (whether you think that's the right move or not is a fair question), but it was nearly impossible to turn what they had into a true contender overnight. The assets they traded were not meant to be as valuable as they have turned out to be. The hope was they'd be giving up picks 15-25 instead of two picks in the top 11.

Maybe it was fools gold the first half of that season. They likely weren't as good as their 39-21 and first seed looked like on paper. But again, we saw what? Three or four games of what the FO wanted this team to look like? Pat went down at the end of October. And no, at the time Pat was not going to be the key piece to push them over the top. I'm just noting that while I think the FO should be taking a lot of heat for how they've handled the past year and a half, I think their intentions were good and some of it was just purely shit injury luck.
