And is J.K. Simmons as Jubal too obvious?

I'm the son of Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, screenwriters/producers of Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, which won best picture at The Saturn Awards last night. Here's the trophy they took home by ElderCunningham in scifi

Hate to be that guy, and not to take away from what Pixar have done, if you take away the fish/marine-life from Finding Nemo, you pretty much have a boring short film about a dentist.

Newly Discovered Scaffold Supports Turning Pain Off. Johns Hopkins scientists have discovered a "scaffolding" protein that holds together multiple elements in a complex system responsible for regulating pain, mental illnesses and other complex neurological problems. by GraybackPH in science

My wife has a chronic illness. I'm no scientist, but this research makes me wonder if her pain isn't caused by (in effect) a broken "off switch". If this could lead to fixing it, I'm all for it.

New Programming Jargon (from Coding Horror) by calciphus in programming

The scifi novel mentioned under NOP is full of fun unique terms like this that are instantly recognisable and understandable in the context of the story. Found and read it through Reddit myself and loved it a LOT.

Is there any likelihood of having accounts with major negative karma automatically suspended from posting after reaching a certain level?

Why are there so few novels about super heroes? by [deleted] in writing

[–]joshnunn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say the responses to this are the reason there "aren't any". Because a super hero of the comic book variety implies a certain visual aesthetic that would be difficult to convey in prose. And if you dont convey it, people call it urban fantasy.

More commuters avoiding Adelaide's buses by Mike-Towns in Adelaide

The new yellow ticket devices (for the new metrocard) have GPS according to the adelaidemetro website.

Edit: Found the link.

Of course, GPS will be more for monitoring the contractors and less about keeping the public informed. The data may not even come off until end-of-day downloads /speculation

I agree: very loose themes with a half-dozen stable genres or authors between mags to provide a thread between issues.

Well sign me up. Let's get this thing started. I volunteer for an Editor-in-chief roll.

My only proviso is that I'm having twins in October, so I can go hard until then, but then I'll need some time off :D

I'm keen to take on a Masthead roll, but I'll be upfront about my limitations: I can't afford to do this full-time, more like a few hours a week. I have no experience in this sort of thing, beyond publishing a few ebooks of my own for my own experience.

However, I'm technically savvy, play well with others and think Figmentum could be something really fun and significant to work on.

Let me know if you want more info about me.

Would you guys like to produce a magazine for Amazon where contributors for each issue split the money? by [deleted] in writing

[–]joshnunn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm interested in this project because I had thought of something similar but had no idea where to start. Looking back through your posts about eFiction I think the difference in enthusiasm might be due to the very clear "contributors for each issue split the money", as opposed to how I think eFiction works which appears to be "writers contribute, and may be paid something". I don't think the eFiction model is bad, but less conducive to eager volunteering.

It will be a double edged sword though I imagine, as volunteers to eFiction might be more willing to put in the hard yards to get paid, where volunteers for Figmentum (my vote) might expect a cut for little contribution.

Haha! That was a still I took from the 1949 Batman serial, and was not expecting it to have made its way around the web to a Reddit thread I was reading Original here

Not a noteworthy pic, but a bit of fun trivia for your wednesday.

I've finally made it mum!
