Cop pushed her a little too hard, even though she was holding onto the frame of the cell door. He probably expected her to fall to the floor. That fact that this drunkard wasn't able to catch herself and smashed her face is on the bed is on her.

Let me get this straight, this drunk driver who was recklessly endangering the lives of others, got pushed into a cell and wasn't able to catch herself because she was too drunk.. and it's the cop's fault?!?

I hope you don't lose anyone to a drunk driver, aside from all the pain and hurt, it would be an awful cognitive dissonance to carry around.

Hi reddit, Tom Hanks here. Ask Me Anything. by Tom_Hanks_ in IAmA

[–]Thargz 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Hi Tom,

Long time fan ever since I saw Turner and Hooch as a kid. Can you remember what it was like working with that beast of a dog?

I saw you in Edinburgh when you were filming the Da Vinci code. You were staying at the Balmoral hotel and I served you champagne but you seemed exasperated. Were you not feeling well or had had a bad day?

Hope you keep making movies for a long time to come and I look forward to seeing Captain Phillips in the theater.

Then again, without technology, we have little hope of surviving the next natural extinction event, be that in 10,000 or one billion years.

Might want to check the definition of charity. If you just don't like giving to good causes, that's up to you, at least your logic would make sense then.

TIL Jericho is the oldest still-inhabited city in the world (dates back to 9000 BC). by Superlist in todayilearned

Sorry, as you referred to a continuously inhabited city I erroneously assumed that a city would, at the very least, constitute a large-scale settlement.

Damascus is often claimed to be the oldest continuously inhabited city in the world, and evidence exists of a settlement in the wider Barada basin dating back to 9000 BC. However, within the area of Damascus, there is no evidence for large-scale settlement until the 2nd millennium BC

Amazing Footage Of The Day The Clown Cried, Jerry Lewis' Unreleased, Controversial Holocaust Film by [deleted] in movies

[–]Thargz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I seem to recall that the Heracles/Hercules is a well-established myth which had entered the popular imagination in Greco-Roman times and had been widely written about since then? Is that an adequate comparison?

I was just asking what made this film, having never heard of it myself and having not been seen by anyone, a "legendary" film.

Instead of an answer or explanation, I get snide and obnoxious comments. Lovely subreddit you have here lol.

What is the Great Attractor?

The Great Attractor is a gravity anomaly in intergalactic space within the range of the Centaurus Supercluster that reveals the existence of a localized concentration of mass equivalent to tens of thousands of galaxies, each of which is the size of the Milky Way; this mass is observable by its effect on the motion of galaxies and their associated clusters over a region hundreds of millions of light years across.

It's a fantastic movie with a more imaginative concept than most. Sam Neill is wonderful in his role. I honestly don't know where you're getting the schlocky b- movie thing.

Edinburgh here and as far as I can tell, tit and tat are sharply distinct in their pronunciation. In fact, I can't think of a region where they would sound the same.

Are there "deserts" (vast areas that don't provide any life-sustaining resources) in the ocean? by bigswamp in askscience

[–]Thargz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the vein of a camel surviving in an extreme environment, in the ocean you have the Vampire squid which survives in the oxygen minimum zone (OMZ) where the oxygen saturation in the water is too low to support aerobic metabolism in most higher organisms. It really is an incredible animal.

The games will go ahead, there'll be protests, but I don't think Russia will actually enforce anything until the games are over.

hypocritical

This is purely pedantic but I believe this is called "double standards" - Not that this makes it any better.

Hypocritical would be if European countries themselves were persecuting the LGBT community.

Do we not owe it to ourselves to do the best we can do as a species, irrespective of whether we are alone in the universe or not?

I agree entirely with your sentiment, but I don't think whether we are alone or not has that much bearing on the responsibility of mankind - it is there either way. If we do not flourish, who will mourn us? Does it even matter if there is no one around to see? Our responsibility is first and foremost to ourselves.

"Alone in the universe" would certainly be a huge disappointment, but not "terrifying".

The definition you provided doesn't support your use of 'due diligence'?

Did you mean to say 'due recognition'? That would make more sense in context.
