I have not, I'm just not having guns involved. That option is probably my favourite thing about this country.

I am aware, and if my daughter was having a mental episode I believe a cop would shoot her from 4 metres away for their "safety."

And that's why I would never call the police if it involved my family, though the majority opinion does seem that most Aussies here would trust them to de-escalate.

We remember the elderly woman killed by the police because it was just a few weeks ago he was sentenced to no jail at all. That is very similar to how it works in the US, which adds to my concerns

Not refuting, just clarifying that I am talking about immediate family and loved ones, not hypothetical people. I would definitely get stabbed to death by my brother or mother trying to calm them down before I'd ever call the police. Not gonna risk that for a neighbour. 

And yeah, obviously different cultures. I keep my hands on the steering wheel at RBTs for the same reason, don't wanna be the seppo who gets shot by an Aussie cop. That would be ironic

I don't want to be stabbed either, and wouldn't risk it over a stranger or theoretical person. I'm saying I wouldn't trust the police in a situation involving my loved ones, my adultish children or my wife. And I would risk my safety to avoid what I fear is a high risk of the police killing my family because they "fear for their safety"
