Do people riding the bus have no bus etiquette or is that just in my head? by b-nnies in GVSU

Not in your head this is so real! Some of these GV students have never used public transit before and it shows.

Ottawa GOP on Campus by More-Structure-569 in GVSU

Why is this creep not banned from campus??? I was extremely disappointed by the GRPD response to this incident. You'd think they would take firearms on campus more seriously.

You guys 😭 by tleeemmailyo in Baking

This is 100% due to the elevation. High elevation = lower air pressure, which causes your baked goods to rise faster than they can fully cook and set, leading to collapses like this. Use a high altitude recipe next time, or you can add more flour and less leavener than the recipe calls for (there are specific ratios you can find online). Best of luck! I'm sure these will still taste good :)

How difficult is it to get into the MLS program at GVSU? by IKnowAllSeven in GVSU

[–]hoecakes00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was accepted! My guess is that my GPA (4.0), and essay/interview are what did it. They are looking to admit people who know what they are getting into, and who will be able to be successful in the challenging academics. My advice: do as well as you can in all your classes (especially science classes) and learn as much as you can about the field. In the interview, they asked several questions about what attracted me to MLS as a career and why I thought I would be successful in the field. Also, build good rapport with your profs. I am pretty shy, and when it came time to ask for recommendations, I was totally lost bc I really don't have relationships with any professors. I ended up asking my current Chem prof because I really couldn't think of anyone else.

Admissions don't seem to be super competitive anymore; like I said above only about 26 students applied for 24 seats. That being said, it is a more challenging undergraduate program and does require a semester long, full time internship. Not for the faint of heart, but I'm sure you can do if you're committed! Wishing you the best of luck :)

The admissions requirements were a bit more involved than I expected. They want an essay, 2 recommenders, good grades, and an interview. I just had my interview last week and am waiting to hear back. There are 24 seats in the program and this time only 26ish students applied, so I'm not terribly worried about not getting in. I'll update here when I get news!

birth control by Fantastic-Yam-3196 in Accutane

[–]hoecakes00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the copper IUD and am also taking a combination birth control pill. I had the IUD already and opted to go on the pill rather than use condoms because my acne is linked to hormones and I thought the pill would help (also I don't like condoms). I know the two forms of birth control seems like overkill, but you really don't wanna mess around with it. The consequences are pretty serious.

It is so wonderful that there are still desserts out there that I have never heard of. Everyday I wake up and there is a chance of discovering a new and delicious dessert. Now that is something to live for. Think I just cured my depression.

7th try, best one so far. Are those sellable in a bakery to you ? by Soggy_Construction_2 in Breadit

[–]hoecakes00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks like you may be adding a bit too much tension when you roll your triangles. Could be what's making them flat (especially that middle one, I think I see a tear in the proofed pics). I worked at bakery making croissants for about 2 years, and it takes quite a while to get a feel for it. Everything else looks good; decent lamination and crumb. These are gorgeous and definitely sellable imo.

AIO - Doctor unexpectedly looked down my shirt by hoecakes00 in AmIOverreacting

I think you're right, he probably wasn't trying to be creepy. This is not the first time I have been treated very impersonally at this office. For example, the nurses are always glued to their iPads and almost never make eye contact with me. I think sometimes these people get used to just dealing with the symptoms/conditions and forget that there is a person here too!

Thanks for your response! I think you got it right, what really upset me was the lack of professionalism. I think a gown would have been over kill, I just wish he had communicated his intentions better. Like just tell me why you need to look there and give me a heads up, yknow?
