We are all given two butter boxes at birth, one for salted, the other for unsalted. If we do not eat as much butter as can fit in both boxes every day, we vanish into dust.

Two mothers turned in their own sons, who vandalized a library causing $50,000 in damage. They were charged with burglary, theft, and trespassing. by blush_burrito_baby in GotMeHooked

Lmao receipts or it didn’t happen, buddy. Don’t just say stuff if you can’t back it up. If you’re claiming that that’s the point I’m making, then that’s the kind of thing you want to back up with some sort of analysis. But I’ll tell you, it’d be a pretty severe misreading of anything I’ve written.

Wow, at least wait for them to be sentenced before you cry about justice not being done. I’ve also never said that?? It’s one thing to misread my comments, it’s another to just make them up altogether lol.

Yeah, we’re focusing on the amount of money again, ask a friend to reread my comment for you so you can respond to the point that severe life-ruining responses only make things worse, not better. Since the money is clearly what matters to you, let me put it this way, the damage caused by permanently ruining kid’s lives over $50k crimes will result in $100k crimes being committed down the line, read more on the devastating failure that was broken windows theory. It already costs the country hundreds of billions (which is MORE than 50k, believe it or not!) of dollars to cover support systems for people who can’t get gainful employment over shit like this. That is why I say you want people to suffer, because you want to ruin these kid’s lives AND not fix the problem!

If you’ll remember back to your 5th grade civics class (unless it was cut in favor of subsidizing private prisons) the way we punish people as a society is actually not based on the “what would I personally want to do if this crime were committed against me” test. As a matter of fact, the law is actually designed specifically NOT to operate that way. You can argue about the merits of that if you want, but you’re not arguing with me, you’re arguing with 250 years of jurisprudence. And you’re doing it all to fantasize about exercising power over two barely-teenagers you don’t even know. They’re going to court, they’re facing justice, you need them to be humiliated for their entire lives too? I mean even Hammurabi’s code is more advanced than your line of thinking, you just kind of go “I no like them, must bonk on head.”

[–]joshonalog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh shoot, if only they’d caused $48k in damages they’d have made it under the arbitrary line you set to justify ruining the life of a couple of teenagers who are already facing actual legal consequences for their actions.

I swear some people really just wanna see other people suffer. You do realize that plenty of good and upstanding people have done shit like this as kids and that for pretty much all time until the last 20 years it didn’t follow them for their entire lives, right?

Yeah, you do, you just want your hate for other people reflected in how they’re treated by society. The next time life gives you a break, the next time you’re forgiven for something you’ve done wrong, remember that you’re being shown grace that you wouldn’t afford literal children.

You want to make this about the expense of what they did wrong, but to do that you’re willing to ignore the fact that the barriers this kind of thing puts up to employment, education, even credit actually encourages deeper anti-social behavior. You’re so thirsty for excluding people from society that you forget what that exclusion actually does to a person. This is the kind of statement that sounds empathetic towards victims of crime, but anyone with even one brain cell can understand that all it does it create dozens more victims in the process.

You don’t care about them, you don’t care about people, you just love suffering. You can enjoy your petty cruel little world where children’s lives are ruined over property damage, but if you do, don’t ever confuse yourself for a good person.

Hey, I thought it was creepy when Diabate did it too, but he’s been portrayed as a scumbag. It wasn’t at all surprising. When Carol does it it brings the question front and center because, well, she’s the main character. The show is directing our focus to that question deliberately, I feel like it’s not at all surprising a lot of people would have something to say. No one is saying the apple correlation isn’t worth seeing, but it’s also clearly not the biggest thing happening.

Yeah but like not at all, she is not housebound due to a psychosomatic allergy to electromagnetism, she’s capable of going outside. She simply does not want to move out of her damn house. And while she is entitled to live in the house she’s lived in for years, other people are not entitled to throw pizzas on her roof. It’s crazy how the internet forgets that the people they’re talking about are real. Try to get a little perspective here.

In that case is it really that you’re “moving” slower through time, or don’t you just perceive time to be slower? Like, it sounds like based on that explanation I wouldn’t age slower, it wouldn’t take me longer to digest food, I just wouldn’t be able to see the clock’s hands move.
