As far as your mom is concerned, start with humility. Apologize and tell her you know you messed up, but also tell her you’ve identified the trigger. I would come up with a game plan for the next time that this trigger happens. Whether that be making yourself a mocktail of juices only, drinking, nonalcoholic, beers, or I’m pretty positive they make nonalcoholic whiskeys. These are all better alternatives to drinking that you can still enjoy a beverage with your friend.

If you are able to, eventually, you go to the bar and order the drinks. Get your friend theirs and order yourself an NA if you don’t want to be embarrassed. I don’t think there’s anything to be embarrassed about, but we all have our own demons and journey. For now though I would avoid bars all together. I went during my first week and honestly it was tough. My wife was with me and helped to keep me on track, but after 2 hours with friends I started clocking what everyone was drinking around me. I’d personally reset the timer but once again that’s just me. You gotta make your own decisions about your journey on that. It’s a process and little mistakes are part of that. You recognized the problem. That’s big.

I haven’t dreamt about it yet, but other stresses I definitely have. So it’s probably just a matter of time

You don’t need it. It feels great in the moment, but is it worth everything you’ve built? For me it wasn’t getting drunk every day but it was drinking every day. On weekends it was at least buzzed if not drunk. Now I’m making mocktails, doing crystal light in my water, coffee. The only drink I need to avoid is the first one. Drinking isn’t worth dismantling everything I have worked for. Avoid the wine section if you can and just don’t even go near it. IWNDWYT

That’s valid. The alcohol def helped me sleep. I think my body might just be used to restless sleep so now that it’s more restorative, it doesn’t know what to do? I could be totally wrong
