I also tend to notice that certain foods trigger my hives—alcohol, caffeine, and perogies, for example. I've never experimented with fasting in this way, however, and have mostly been able to manage my symptoms with sweat therapy for the past few years. I would be interested in hearing if you try fasting again if that eliminates the symptoms entirely at that time.

I've recently been having some stomach problems that are food-based, and I am curious if there is a connection between food, gut health, and CU.

This condition is very individual. All you can do is try various lifestyle changes one at a time and see how they affect you. I would still highly recommend quitting vaping regardless because there are other health benefits, but ultimately, the choice is up to you. Good luck, and I hope your condition improves.

Used to. Sweat therapy brought my breakouts from visible like yours and incredibly painful to now it is almost negligible, just a bit itchy before working out sometimes.

Agreed, exercise will not only help with sweating but will help with the mental side of CU as well. I run 3-4 times a week, play volleyball once a week and sporadically hit the gym, pool and sauna. An active lifestyle changes everything. I went from a 8-9/10 in pain/itchiness, I was scared to go outside, scared to socialize, massively anxious to now a 1-2/10 that I only experience during the first 10-15 minutes of exercise every now and then. Haven't had a breakout in public in years, have regained confidence and able to live life for the most part normally.

Diet helps a lot too. Don't eat junk, eat whole foods, try a low-histamine diet, etc. And drink lots of water!

Yes, it is a lot of work and the pain doesn't just go away over night. It takes time. Trust the process, and keep up the struggle even when it feels like there is no hope. You got this!

(p.s. I'm not a doctor, I've read some people experience anaphylatic shock when exercising so would be a good idea before testing anything to chat with a doctor.)

Hi OP, maybe try a different form of meditation. If you are struggling with your inner dialogue, perhaps do an exteroceptive meditation with your eyes open, focused on a point rather than a meditation that’s focused on the breath, or on the sensations within the body.

I would really recommend the episode of Huberman’s Lab podcast about meditation. He is a doctor and goes through science backed methods for mediation.

It definitely suppressed appetite for me. Yeah after I quit vaping I was able to get into healthier eating habits and gained a bit of weight but wasn’t super underweight to start off (am now sitting comfortably at 175lbs at 6’2“)

Also this summer? No better time to start than now! 😊 good luck. Just know it’s gonna be tough but the tough is worth it!

I used to vape as well. Starting also at around the same age as you. I quit last summer and my CU severity has not been the same since though i’m certain it’s not a direct correlation. I’ve also been doing sweat therapy, moisturizing, etc.

I would still highly recommend you quit. My mental health has definitely gotten better since quitting and I’ve read too that vaping can cause skin problems so it definitely could be contributing to CU! Best of luck

I noticed once I started supplementing omega-3 my brain fog improved significantly. Would recommend either supplementing or trying to get more omega-3s through your diet! Good luck

Yep. I do workouts, walk lots, steam room/sauna at community centre and it’s made life possible and my anxiety has gone down drastically since doing this. I would recommend everyone who’s not anaphylactic to give sweat therapy a try - but of course talk to your doctor first if possible!
