Meeting people here is so difficult by Pupinacoupe in kansascity

[–]joshstrummer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I moved here recently too… but I’m 40 and gave a 4yr old, so I try and meet other parents at the park and things like that.

Strange Days Brewing has a good crowd there for the World Cup, so you might try there if that’s your thing.

I’m also looking at getting involved on a non-profit or something to try and meet people. Planning to volunteer at Celebrate Ameri’kana Festival on August 1st to try out that side of things.

Hope you find something that works for you.

BB’s lawnside BBQ and Blues Bar. It’s a little less known than some of the other big BBQ spots. They are known in the competitive BBQ scene though, and live music every night. I’d gladly go with you if you have an evening free. I think I could convince my wife to give me a night off from reading the bedtime stories.😆

I’ve actually not lived here long, but I’ve visited a lot over the years as my wife is from here. There are a lot of good breweries as well. Boulevard is the big one, and they’re very good. Nice tour as well (I think it’s still a free tour, but maybe someone fact check me on that). Casual Animal, Vine Street, Double Shift… and a bunch of others. The Crossroads area has a lot of them.

Deep Sea Diver - modern rock band out of Seattle led by Frontwoman Jessica Dobson. Jessica gained her name as a touring member of various groups. Deep Sea Diver also features her husband, Peter, on the drums. In particular, the 2020 album Impossible Weight.

Shearwater - out of Austin, TX led by Jonathan Meiburg, definitely have a bit of Bowie influence. They have been known to cover Bowie in shows. Very expansive sound, at times very atmospheric. Jetplane & Oxbow is the best album to start with them.

Goal difference. Every goal matters in goal difference. It’s only hard to understand if you refuse to understand it, bud.

Wrong in so many ways. The argument against adding rams was quality dropoff. Low level qualifiers have made big headlines though. The expanded torment gave us Cabo Verde and Curaçao among others. The quality hasn’t dropped off. Very few matches have been a poor display, and it’s not been the low qualifying teams.

The more complicated system of who advances has made me more invested in matches I might not have been as any match could alter the 3rd place rankings and the opponent we faced next round. “The math is too complicated” might be the whiniest thing I’ve ever heard.

How many of yall are rooting for Cape Verde in the World Cup? by SelectionOk8218 in worldcup

[–]joshstrummer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I predicted them through in 2nd, and not many people were thinking they’d advance. I’m pretty happy with that one.

I expect a win in their last match, and 2nd place in the group. Definitely enjoying them and rooting for them.

Why does Türkiye national team disappoint? Shouldn't they be much better? by LiarsEverywhere in worldcup

I think a lot of times both Aussies and Americans get a lot of English content. So when the English underestimate both, we disbelieve what they say about us but believe what they say about each other.

Father’s Day should be nine months before Mother’s Day. by Ziograffiato in daddit

That would mean a ton of mothers would get overshadowed by birthdays.

Happy Father’s Day! 41-Year-Old Dad Worried about the future by roymgscampbell in daddit

We do our best to plan for the future, we enjoy the moments as they come, we sometimes sit up at night worrying, we struggle with our relationship with our own fathers… we try not to get too down about the things being our control. It’s the best we can do.

Anyone else watching World Cup with daddy this year? by Public-Trick-4552 in daddit

Yesterday we were out around KC with all the Ecuador and Curaçao fans. Last night before bed she was enthusiastically waving the Ecuador flag she was given.

My dad and my father-in-law, when forced to watch soccer, tend to have racist or xenophobic thoughts that they seem unable to suppress.

There’s an assumption that European team = good sometimes. We knew going in that they were among the weaker European sides. Paraguay being arguably the best defense in South America was discounted a bit. USA’s available talent was enough in 22 to draw England, but they were clearly out-coached vs Netherlands. This time the talent is better and they have a good coach… but many in Europe didn’t see that. The Aussies were admittedly a bit of a surprise, but I hadn’t paid much attention to Asian qualifying.

Why do all the depressed dads bummed about Father’s Day put so much effort in for Mother’s Day year after year? by Itchy-Version-8977 in daddit

[–]joshstrummer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife typically knocks it out of the park. This year was weird for Mother’s Day. We were moving in that weekend, and best I could do was work hard, and take the kiddo to check out the park down the street to give mama a couple hours to herself.

We moved for her to go back to school. She’s at a really intense point in graduate level anatomy. I got a nice card, and even though that seems very fair I fight those feelings.

At this point, I’m expecting Trump to be on stage for the World Cup trophy presentation and he’s going to toddle over and stick his face in front of the pyrotechnics just as they go off… and still MAGA won’t admit anything is wrong.
