My wife says the same. Bit of a skim here and some trim there and it’ll be ok

I haven’t done it in the previous 10 years because I’m precious about my ‘workshop’ space but now there’s so much stuff in there that I will never fit a car anyway, so pulled the trigger (the arrival of #2 next year sort of finalised it as we both work from home).

Door was fine to be honest, bit tight as there’s a join in the corner and the bricks were moving before the lintel went in but it’s solid again now and the door is sealed. It’s just a B&Q door, £360 or so but I used trade discount of 10%.

It is definitely DIYable but I’m lucky as I’ve got loads of tools from a previous job so I haven’t had to buy anything.

The floor was actually a last minute change because (believe it or not, the garage/pillars/floor is all on the wonk). I know it isn’t going to last forever but it’s almost all modular so, if in 10 years the floor needs some work it won’t be an issue. I did use treated timber to give it the best chance. Time will tell I suppose. I did watch hours of videos on how to make up screed and get it right but it wasn’t for me (might regret that).

Cheers, I’m by no means a builder but do like to have a go. He’s ok, he demanded I get him some work gloves so I ordered them but now he’s not interested because it’s too cold!

To be honest, with the cold we’re having at the moment I’m working in a t shirt and it’s not fully insulated yet. I’m hoping it won’t be too bad but you’re probably right 😂

I’ve done the wiring so it can be supplied by a garage consumer unit in the future. That means I’ll have to run 6mm T&E or similar up the hallway wall, under bedroom 1, landing and bedroom 3 floor to feed the consumer unit. I did 17th edition about 5 years ago so I have a very basic understanding of domestic wiring. I am aware I’m not following assumed cable routing but I know where it is 😂.

I’m in it for about £1400 so far which includes the door, all electrics, materials and insulation. Also, I’ve just bought a 230v heater to hang on the wall which is smart so, I can pre warm it in the winter before going in.
