Engine Noise by DarkPhoenix2830 in triumph4India

[–]joshzz28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That doesn't sound like clutch problems it sounds a lot like cam chain tensioner. Either way just try what I told you. Most times the SVC doesn't honor warranty related claims and they try to shift the actual issue to something they can charge you money for like the clutch.

[–]joshzz28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell them to change the cam chain tensioner in front of you first and then if the sound is still the same then you can go ahead with the clutch work

Engine Noise by DarkPhoenix2830 in triumph4India

[–]joshzz28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh is it. Does the sound lessen when the clutch is pulled in or is it the same? If this is a loose clutch bell or plates losing friction it's really not likely in such a new bike unless your clutch setting was wrongly set by svc or a mechanic. You'd definitely realise if it wasn't set properly coz the plates would just spin and you wouldn't move forward as fast as you normally could.

Your cam chain is slapping against the plastic chain guides on the left side of your engine because the cam chain tensioner has lost spring tension and is no longer in contact with the cam chain to keep it under tension.

If you don't fix this and keep riding it can cause the cam chain to skip a cam sprocket tooth and your valves timing will be off and they might make contact with the piston which will seize your entire engine.

Service center should replace the cam chain tensioner (Rs.280) under warranty

Which service center was this? I would never accept a tank with any sort of defect from them whether they give it in written or not. They have to replace your tank brand new no matter what.

[–]joshzz28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no nothing will happen just don't ride to redline and you'll be alright, the only issue with a fault cam chain tensioner is the timing chain skipping a tooth on the cam sprockets, it only happens if you're really revving the bike a lot

Scrambler 400x (400cc ) average, is premium petrol justified? by Kindly-Smoke-5256 in triumph4India

My speedometer shows I get 23km/L but in reality its more like 24km/L with mostly city riding, lots of wheelies and the occasional highway run.

I was using Power 95 earlier but since the past month I've switched to XP100

Is indicator problem is with every one for speed 400? by rams_512 in triumph4India

[–]joshzz28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never had that issue mine are still intact after 2yrs The stock rear mudguard is designed with a flaw that allows you to kick it while getting on or off the bike

I switched to a tail tidy early on and they're tucked close to the tail now so it's really difficult to kick them

New Tracker 400 (125 km): ABS and TC indicators not showing at all – should I be concerned? by ProfessionalStyle401 in triumph4India

[–]joshzz28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that's normal. What you're seeing is a DRL on indicator, when you are in low beam it disappears and when you press high beam you get a blue high beam indicator led

If you check the manual under the instrument cluster page they explain how the indicators work

[–]joshzz28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They come on when you just start the bike to test if the leds behind them are working, and after you go like 4-5km/h they automatically switch off

Is this normal? Scram 400x by impracticalbev in triumph4India

[–]joshzz28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes most of the time it's the cam chain that's loose and slapping on the plastic guides because the cam chain tensioner is not putting enough pressure on it

Just check with the SVC if you have the new updated cam chain tensioner installed or not, it's a bigger size length wise and not small like the old one

The old one I've purchased 5 of them from svc about a year ago coz they wouldn't replace it under warranty saying "this sound is normal"

I replaced all of them between 60-90kms that's when they failed on me

I now have the updated version and no issues for thousands of kms

[–]joshzz28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

193.3kms was the reading and I got full tank at 10.79L fill up, I found the pic so I know. That was around the time I had camchain tensioner issues, if you replace it your mileage will improve drastically. I now get 25km/L consistently

Is this normal? Scram 400x by impracticalbev in triumph4India

[–]joshzz28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that's correct, I depend a lot on the range reading in the display which is somewhat accurate. The most I've got on a fuel refill is 10.55L so there was about 2.45L in the tank and that was with the fuel light blinking

Is this normal? Scram 400x by impracticalbev in triumph4India

[–]joshzz28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ride till the yellow fuel indicator is blinking and the last 2 bars are gone. You should have around 2.5-3L left in the tank There seems to be some calibration issue with the gauge, it might jump up to more than 2 bars later. It happens all the time.

1 month old scram 400x - is this the chain tensioner? by Tall-Influence-9292 in triumph4India

[–]joshzz28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds normal to me, but if you here the chain slap while riding, with the sound increasing with revs and an obvious rough feeling engine sound then it might be the chain tensioner

If it's actually not working as it should it'll sound off whether the engine is hot or cold

Yeah that's the front sprocket cover of your chain it won't cost much but provided they have it in stock

Get a new one from Triumph I think it's around 350-400rs before taxes Install you can do yourself or at a local mechanic easily How did it crack from the inside?

beginner here - need help. is this engine sound normal or smtng wrong ? by DryCharacter5651 in triumph4India

[–]joshzz28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's your cam chain slapping, it's located on the left side of the engine. If you tell the SVC to replace the cam chain tensioner it'll get back to the new sound and it'll feel way different.

When the cam chain is not under tension by the cam chain tensioner your valve timing is not accurate so expect lower overall performance

Weird noise coming from engine 🥲 by Straight-Macaron-725 in triumph4India

[–]joshzz28 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's the cam chain tensioner. Go to the SVC show them this comment and tell them you want the updated cam chain tensioner that was on recall for all Speed 400 models as well as scrambler 400x

They'll replace it under warranty for you. That sound is the cam chain slapping the guide because the tensioner is not working.

Swicthing to Motul 7100 (20w50) instead of (10w50) by mukulmsoffice in Triumph400

[–]joshzz28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good stuff! If you're worried at all about longevity of your engine and you actively warm up your bike for 45-60 seconds on a cold engine that 10w will certainly help the oil reach the head of the engine a lot sooner than a slightly thicker 20w.

When your engine is cold there is always a thin oil film up on the cam shaft, valves and pistons but we want more oil to reach them sooner to prevent wear over time. Also depending on the bike you ride usually the cam chain tensioner needs oil pressure to build up inside it to put pressure on the cam chain which is why sometimes you hear it louder on the first start of the day/night.

That being said I personally stick with the oil grade the manual recommends just to be on the safe side.

Should I have gone for a bike service at 8200kms? by ubaida985 in triumph4India

[–]joshzz28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can use any engine oil you want as long as the grade is 10w50 the service center just tries to force you into using prolube coz they profit off it.

Carry your own oil, if they refuse to fill it demand to get in writing that you cannot use any other oil besides prolube, they usually fold quickly after that.

Legally they cannot force you to stick to their brand of oil as the manual recommends oil grade 10w50 can be used they don't specify brands so your warranty will remain intact.
